Default SimJet 1200-18 / Wren Super Sport

What is the difference between a Simjet 1200-18 and a Wren Super Sport?
Is the Sim Jet a clone of the Wren?
Any body have any preferences and why.
Thanks

Hi there,

the Wren is very much a different engine. It has a different diffuser design which is the key to why it's so powerfull. I don't want to seem like I'm slating the Simjet version but the ones ive seen just dont perform like the Supersports ive seen. Just my opinion.

Have to agree with Jason on this one the 1800 IS NOT A CLONE OF THE SUPER SPORT its a slightly moded 54 but with higher revs.

Although I am a very happy simjet owner I would prefer the supersport out of the two.

Just my opinion

Ant,

so the Simjet is set to rev higher than 160k ? didn't know that.

I am also a happy simjet owner.

According to Simjet's website the 1200-18 AES has a max. rpm of 161K, not significantly different than the Wren SS at 160K.

I've been considering a Wren SS, any would be interested in any other comparative comments regarding performance, features or service.

Joe, I have to agree with the bush, I have a second Wren Supersport on the way. The Supersport is a sweet running engine with a big punch. If you give it a try I think you'll like it.!~).

Good one, Sonnich. I second that.

Anyway....to be honest, I don't think you can go wrong either way. A good thing to bring up in theese SimJet vs. (another brand) threads, has always been FUEL COMSUMPTION. Simjet turbines will outperform almost any other brand when it comes to fuel comsumption.

Are there any independent test showing this? Manufacturer's figures can be very suspect.

RCJI magazine is a very good place to look for such information. I think both engines have been tested in RCJI within the last 4 or 5 years. Or maybe your GTBA.

But,---- like I said. You can't go wrong with any of theese engines.

Either way wrens on a winner as I believe there are wren manufactured parts in the simjet. But yes if wren was heads and simjet tails I would be using my double headed coin CHEAT.

For my first turbine I had already made up my mind to buy a Wren 54 as their service had such a good reputation. When the Supersport was announced I chose to spend the extra bucks for a bit more power. I do not know anything about Simjet service good or bad. - John.
