G&P F18 vs CBM F18
Can anyone tell me the differences between the G&P F18 and the Combat Model F18 or even the CBM F16N? The difference as far as building these and which one has the best flying characteristics or even cost difference. I have seen where there are some problems getting parts from CBM. Do you get good follow up service after your purchase from G&P? If I decide to go with CBM F16 instead of the F18, are parts for that hard to get from CBM for the F16 like they are for the F18? Just trying to make the best decision before I buy one. Thanks

G&P vs. CBM
I have the combat models f-16 and will tell you from personal experience that they are a pain to build. Also combat models themselves is another issue. They don't respond to e-mails and almost never answer the phone. I have recently ordered the G&P f-18 and think it would be MUCH easier to buil. The combat models is all foam and you need to fiberglass and sand and fill the entire plane. The G&P IS fiberglass and you would only have to do the wings.
Just my 2 cents

I am currently building the F16N and contrary to Josh am having a lot of fun building it. Kind of a nice change from balsa. The part count is very small but as Josh mentioned there is alot of sanding and filling.
They are VERY difficult to get follow up service from. If you decide on Combat Models, get everything you can't get else where from them when you get the kit.

I agree , they are a nice change from a balsa kit. It is just the sanding i don't like. I also agree that you should buy the accessories elsewhere unless you buy them with the kit. In the past I had bought the a-10 and it was missing the video.....it took 3 MONTHS to finally get it. For a foam model, they are pretty sturdy planes once the carbon fiber and fiberglass are applied.

I ordered the CBM F-16N on Dec 22 recieved it Jan 22 and it was missing the entire landing gear set and the fiberglass. Called them, e-mailed them, and got a reply two weeks later after multiple e-mails and calls the answer was that they are looking into it. Well that was last week and still NO answer about my missing stuff. I have been patient about it, but that will be gone very soon  . They have the worst post purchase support I have ever seen. Other than that it seems like a nice kit that I will use as a low cost trainer to get ready for D/F and eventually Turbine.

That is the same excuse they used when i got my a-10 without the video. From what i hear that is the standard reply that ALOT of people get when trying to deal with them. Tower Hobbies used to carry this kit....don't know if they still do . Maybe if Wingman wants one,he should look into getting it from them.

G&P
The G&P sales gets my vote, i had one and loved it. I sold it to raise money for my turbine but miss it alot. It looks just like a real F-18 in flight, and handles fantastic. You will love the G&P F-18..

I bought a used G&P PBY that needed cowlings, called them , ordered and they got them right out. The only thing I don't care for is G&P uses polyester glass, but I can live with it.

Goggles-- I just had an O.S 61FX in it without a pipe. It flew great with decent power..if i still had it i would go with a tuned pipe for that added zip..
Joshl---I got the decals from G&P sales. Back when i got the kit ( about 1 year ago) he had a few sheets of Blue Angel decals laying around. I think he said he was getting some made, so he may still sell them.
Kingair----Ya i did skimp on the gear, if i decided to build another i would put a nice set of gear and wheels on it.
Oh ya ..she fly's inverted very well...a long inverted pass was a faverite manuver of mine. Very forgiving in slow flight also. I had a precarious dead stick landing once, and she made it back to the field with ease...the pit people thought it would snap and spin from the way it came in. She landed like feather.

Combat Models
I totally agreed w/ JoshL....i ordered a CM F-18 last year in January and they said that the retracts will come to me at my door aproximately 2 weeks...and right now it's been 1 year and 1 month..and no retracts.....i email and left messages...and no response..and if they respond..after awhile..they said that they would ship the retracts soon to me...i even try to get a refund on it..but i'm about 90 % complete..and they said that they would ship the retracts anytime soon...so far i've been so patient...actually 1 whole year has gone by.....anyhow..for the building part...i think i rather go for TGA F-15 straight to ducted fan if you can afford it and comfortable w/ speed 130mph...i myself think..w/ all the building and sanding..time spent...i rather get a ducted fan model...if i didn't get this kit..Also since i already have a F-16 Cermark prop jet to keep me busy flying low passes...at about 120mph...i'm looking forward in getting a Y/A F16C or a BVM F-16C =) in the near future...

F-18
Yeah,
If you want a pusher F-18, Bill Price at G&P Sales is a solid guy. Aside from being a kit manufacturer, he's also a Pastor, and pretty honest about delivery times, availability, etc.
I built his F-18 twice, and they're very easy. It's not nearly as scale as the CM, but you can build at least two of them in the same time it takes. I used a Y.S. .60 and it had A LOT of power. The wings come off for transport, too.

G&P F18 vs CBM F18
So it would be either the G&P F18 or the CBM F16 instead of the CBM F18. If I decide on the CBM F16, the best way to go would be buy from someone who has the complete kit for sale. I have also heard the retracts CBM sells are not sturdy enough to fly off a grass field. What other brand of retracts would be good for the F16 on grass? I like to try to keep things as scale as possible so is it a big difference in G&P and CBM models? Thanks for all the replies and help. By the way, thanks azblue for the pics of the G&P F18. If anyone has any pics of their CBMs I would enjoy seeing them and would be a big help!

G&P F18
AZBLUE- Do you happen to know what the wing loading was on your F18? I saw it fly at the north field and it looked great. Was wondering because I am almost done with a .20 size and it looks like it will be in the 30-32 oz range.
Thanks Ted

I don't know what the wing loading was but the plane was 10lbs ready for takeoff. It had a 54" wing span. Thats all i remember.
I sent my turbine waiver forms in the other day. As soon as i get the waiver i will fly the turbine Kangaroo at North field.
