Here we go.

Busy tonight [8D]
Basically
Mains in and connected. Wing pins and bolts fitted.

Pic 1 shows how I bend Springair legs accurately. Put a small saw cut on the inside of the bend point, only about 1mm deep.
Pic 2 Shows blow lamp to cherry red with the centre on the saw cut and bend, very easy Been doing this for years and never had a problem with a leg.
If you mark up and saw cut both legs at the same time then they end up exactly the same.
Pic 3 shows UC plates clamped while the epoxy sets.
Pic 4 is leg in place.
Pic 5 The other side
Pic 6 shows wheel temp fitted and plate cut.
Pic 7 Wheel extended.
Pic 8 both wells finished and retracted by air.
Pic 9 ...extended
Pic 10 wing on for 1st time using the wing bolts
Pic 11 Top view (just for fun)

Well on the way now.
Tomorrow is nose leg and engine back in for balancing.

Good evening all.

Well, only 1 pic tonight.
Most of the time was spent finalising main UC and putting nose leg unit back in.
Nose leg is bent and wheel fitted, just needs final setup tomorrow.

Unfortunately I had a central heating problem which stopped the boiler, I had to spend some time on that, replaced the thermocouple and all is well.


Back to the model.
The wings now bolt on and it is starting to look like a plane.
The 44 has not been put back in yet, but with the batteries in the nose and the canopy on it just sat on its wheels and did not fall backwards so the CG is not far out.
Tomorrow sees the tail plane on and the engine in, I will then start on final install.
With the wind behind me and no other problems, Sunday looks probable (English weather permitting)

I like the kit very much, especially that no painting is required and there is scale detail, panel lines, rivets at the rear.

Thanks for the time and effort you have put in to document it for us.

Looking forward to the flight report, CG, flaps, stall tendency etc.

I am interested in the glass outer pipe you are using. Have you used this idea before and have you tested this install with the engine running? I have been concerned about the glass outer pipe withstanding the heat.

I am working on a scratch built project, the F-94C and I am considering the glass outer pipe.

scale detail are fantastic, and i'm sure will be a winner
being also for the MW44 make the whole even better intereting..

you just make all us jealous to not having one, and for sure your build report is the best selling promo i ever see..

The glass outer is not my idea, it comes with the kit.
The model has flown with this fitted and the idea works well.
Check out the video on post 1, this has the same system and is flying with a P60.

I just thought it would be good to do a really detailed step by step one.
It is then almost 'live' and you see faults as well as the good side.

To be truthful there has not been that many faults, and they have been mentioned/passed back to Fox Comp.

Good evening all [8D]

Well things have moved on again but I have not checked the CG yet, I will do that tomorrow with the final fit.

Tonight has been good. Engine is in, I noticed I had made a mistake on the engine and mounted it the other side of the engine mount, so to keep things fair and too drawing I had to change it. [:-] anyway, it is done now.
Fuel tanks in and most of the plumbing, nose wheel fully set up and complete.
Tail planes glued in place. So just the final fit tomorrow and wing fences, Canopy cover.
The pics are interesting.
I show 2 with the weights on the scales.

The wing is complete, the fus is only missing ECU, ecu bat, pump, 1 micro servo and air tank, so the weight shown is not that far out.

Wing weighs 2lb 13 oz
Fus weighs 7lb 6oz

Total weight = 10lb 3oz ( 4.62 kilo) [sm=wink_smile.gif]
A good weight at this point so maybe 10.5lbs dry all up? i hope so.!

We shall see tomorrow.

Pic1 and 2 nose leg done.
Pic 3 The 2 moulded fuel cells. I have set them up in series each cell is 900 ml i do not want any more than a litre so i have set the overflow in tank 2 at just over 1/4 tank.
Pic 4 and 5 shows engine and tanks in place.

Ok had to take a break from the building for a couple of hours so here is the current status.

Most work is done now as pictures show.

All that is left is wing fences, whip Ariel and final plumbing link up for the retracts.

She balanced perfectly [X(]
You will see how it was balanced on a table using a piece of wood moulding.

Total weight dry......10.5lbs
So take off weight is around 12.5lbs.
Trevs with the P60 weighs 12.5lbs dry and uses 2 ltrs of fuel so take off weight is around 16.5lbs!

So it says a lot for the plane.
I will let the pics tell the story and pop back on later to let you know if it is go for tomorrow [8D]

Can be a nightmare sometimes, requiring constant "T-cutting".

Hi all

Well..it is ready, i have 3 pics which are self explanatory.
One shows the wing fences being fitted.

The last pic is it on the bench ready for tomorrow

I just hope the English weather is kind.

The question about hanger rash..not bad. I will T cut as you say once the decals arrive so i can do some ‘tarting’ up.

Well, went flying today, the sky was blue as the Hawk swept majestically from horizon to horizon, the sun was beating down and the warm summer breeze caressed the back of my neck, a cool drink between flights further added to the days pleasures……[8D]

Then I woke up [:-] ,loaded up the car and set of on the 1hr drive to the runway site.
After 30mins of being blown over, soaked and frozen I decided to head home with the Hawk still in the car. It was awful, almost biblical (plagues of frogs, fireballs, locusts)

So here I sit watching my patio furniture being blown around and the rain hitting the window horizontally.

So no test flight, no flight report [sm=cry_smile.gif]

I will however continue the build thread; I have more detailing to do and the decals of course (hopefully they will be here tomorrow).

I will give an update tonight as I have a couple of things I want to do, also tomorrow and Tuesday, but I am off to Italy for 2 days and I have various meetings on Friday.
I may get a test flight next Sunday; it would be off grass and not the ideal test flight site but should be OK. (Weather permitting).

All,

Having seen Pauls Hawk on Sunday and having finished the Cermark F16, I decided to have a go at the Hawk cockpit. Vac-formed plastic usualy strikes fear into me but the kit supplied enables you to have a reasonable and lightweight rendition of a full size cockpit area. You will be amazed to know I didn`t look at any full size pics to complete this.
