Talked with David Shulman at Florida Jets and he said the P60 in the ARF Bandit was turned
up to 185,000 RPM's from 165,000 RPM's. I was also told by another Bandit owner that the
exhaust velocity of the P60 is higher than the P70. Not sure if that's after the RPM's are
increased or not.

Trying to figure out if my P60 will fly the ARF Bandit off our 400 feet grass runway. Has anyone
taken off with some degree of flaps?? I thought this may help off grass but was told it would
cause to much drag?? Our field isn't the smoothest so I am planning to put the JET-1A struts
on the Bandit. Currently using a set on my Boomerang and they work great. Wish I knew of
them sooner they would have saved a lot of retract work on my TopGun F15 !!!!

THANKS, TOM

Tom, the BVM P-60 was not turned up to 185k @ fl jets.... David don't know... 185k would not be advisable.

The Vtp is higher on the p-60 compared to the 70.

Anyways, I would use the p-70 for grass and use the recomended take-off flap setting. I loved the way my p-70 BA flew. The 60 has better spool up time on the other hand.

Thats a really nice picture of the Bandit ARF, I have the same one , still working on finishing. I had the same problem deciding on an engine, I ended up going with the P-70, I will be flying from a fairly smooth grass runway as well. I didn't know they had Jet-1A legs out yet for the Bandit ARF, I think they are the way to go for grass. Looking forwards to getting it done, its a beautiful plane. Thanks for the flight reports and tips , Jack .

Guys

I was thinking to use a P-80 but is almost the same weight of the P-120...i know that 28lbs is a lot of power but i will have incredible vertical speed...

I would use a 120 S.E. if I were to do it again.

Andrew, Any specific reasons for wanting to use a p120 over your current engine?

It should go through engine area back through fuse and mount where it contacts the fuse. WHMC

Hey Anurag,

I just think the Bandit ARF would be a whole different animal with a 120 S.E. I don't know if it would be any better top speed but the vertical lines would be a lot better. With that quick spool up time you could do some amazing things with it.

I can well imagine. My bandit arf is waiting for the weather to improve before it can be test flown. It has a p70..and with full tank of fuel, it seems like a rock.

Anurag, the plane may feel a little heavy when it is full of fuel but after the first lap from takeoff you will be flying very fast with the P-70. I had a few guys tell me that they thought mine was hitting the 200 mph mark at Kentucky Jets this past weekend. At 7 minutes flight time I have emptied the main tanks and I am just getting into the 16 oz header tank. I land with that tank basically full when I shutdown.

The plane has a very wide C.G range. I have flown mine with both a P-60 and a P-70 w/o changing the C.G. which was initially setup for the P-70 engine...Gary

I just pulled the 18-pounder turbine out of my (old) classic Bandit because it was more push than my flying style needs. Along with new P-60 flavor bypass parts just received from BVM, a re-upped/zero time RAM500 is being retrofitted. This thread is a great confidence-builder that I've made a good choice in downsizing the thrust. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for your reply...
Here attached pic's of the wooden bracket that came with the TailPipe... It should be located 4" from the Rear-End.... while the bracket shown is away bigger than the frame itself..... I thought there might be some parts to be cut.... Please advise.

Thanks
Abraham

Runway length - Will a Bandit ARF have any problems taking off from 400 ft concrete runway. Will it be marginal or is 400 plenty of room? Need to know

Abraham,
The part pictured is the aft bypass tube support for an Ultra Bandit. It seems to me that it has been included in your Bandit ARF kit by mistake.
Please get in touch with Patty at BVM and ask her for a replacement.

I fly mine (P-80) off a 400' runway. Plenty of space.

My Bandit w/RAM70 takes off in about 100ft so a 400' runway is no problem for take off. Landing is OK too, but hit the numbers and don't come in hot (or else be prepared to hit the brakes).
