RE: bandit arf and jetcat p-80?
In process of purchasing a bandit arf and wanted to know if a P 70 and P 80 will power the planes enough to get the plane off from a 400 ft hard surface runway? I have asked this question in a couple of other threads.

RE: bandit arf and jetcat p-80?
hey...ive got a p-80 in mine and its got lots of push, hard to hold on to. ive not yet flown mine but my fields runway is 375 feet by 50 and i think it wont have a problem getting off the ground. guessing around 200 250 it should un stick. landing that small of a field mite be the tricky part.

Mike, it is kind of short but not impossible.
I land mine with brakes on and have done it in less than 150 ft 3 out of 10 times. If you can, learn the airplane on a longer runway and aim for the very edge on final. It can land very slow, but it takes lots of elevator travel!. You have to "mush" it in and let it hang on the flaps.
Thes things don't like grass too much. [:@]
Good luck!

RE: bandit arf and jetcat p-80?
The Classic Bandit was the same size, and we used to fly them with 17 LB engines. Hell, the first Bandits were flown with JPX propane engines that only made 13 lbs. to 14 lbs. They were a little sluggish, and needed more runway for takeoff, so the larger engines made a major performance improvement.
I have flown them with 17 lbs, 22 lbs, 27 lbs and 30 lbs.....a Bandit ARF will come in a little lighter, and will be a great airplane with a P-80.
The factory recommendation is 12 to 20 lbs.

RE: bandit arf and jetcat p-80?
Thanks guys. Sounds like the P-80 should do the trick. I currently have A CAI Raptor with the a AMT Pegasus 28 lb. Plane at take off is 34 lbs. Gets off of our 400 ft runway at the 300 ft mark. Landing is a real challange. If every thing goes as planned, I can land at the begining of the runway and be stipped at the 250ft mark. That is if every thing goes as planned. If it does not then repair will be needed. Thats why I want to go with a lighter plane that will land slower than my Raptor. Thanks for the info.

Just do not put your nose up in a Bandit when landing. Read BVM instruction on landing very carefully, he means one degree atitude!!! You will love the Bandit!!!

RE: bandit arf and jetcat p-80?
I used Crow on my Bandit ARF and it had a wren SS which had a very good throttle response. I'd carry about 30-35% of power and keep the nose level and I flare a few feet off the ground before touch down (while cutting the throttle last minute). My bandit came in at 18.5 lb dry so I could slow it down a bit more than my last one which had a P120 in it. Do not rush the Bandit on landing. Good luck!

Maybe you meant the time you put the retract through the wing of your BARF? I can't keep all your bad landings straight??? Or maybe the time you broke my phantom???

RE: bandit arf and jetcat p-80?
Well, I have resolved my problem with what turbine to go with. Instead of going with a P-80, I will be going with a P-120 and dialing the thrust down to either 20 or 22 lbs. This way if the take off run is too long, just up the rpms some. Also, I have another plane that uses an AMT Pegasus, 28lb. If something should happen to the Bandit ARF I can replace the old AMT with the new jetcat. Thanks for the help.
