Default Carbon fiber where to get it

Where do you get those great looking mounting boards to finish up the insides of jets?

I do have some carbon fiber plank which are a sandwich of carbon fiber and balsa in the middle but they do not have that same great finish that looks like real carbon on a racing car.

Hi,

I managed to get some sheet material from Todd at Dreamworks, it was called "Carbon look" just as good, and cheaper than carbon fibre sheet.

Be aware it has also been said that carbon fibre in the fuselage can in certain circumstances sheild radio signals to the reciever arial ect.

yep - that's why I went with the faux [link=http://dreamworksrc.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=67]carbon fiber[/link] from Todd's Dreamworks. It's relatively cheap, easy to work with and looks great.

Those 'Great looking carbon fiber mounting boards', may be just 3mm ply, covered in stick on CF lookalike plastic. Carbon fiber is rediculously hard to cut, you will need a ceramic tile cutting blade to saw it. Ray

Not so - I cut carbon plate (..09" up to .125") all the time using a 58" Delta bandsaw with a fine kerf (1/8" wide) blade, as well as with a standard scroll saw for making control horns and the like. Just need to cut slower and watch out that you don't overheat the blade. Like all composite materials, it DOES dull the cutting edge quickly.

I use a plywood plate...cut all the holes I need, then either paint it with fancy textured paint, or use Ultracote cf or cf/teflon covering....

I have ordered some CF look alike from http://www.dreamworksrc.com/ and will give them a try.

Do you laminate them first before cutting the holes or do you make the plywood board first and then match the CF look alike to it?

Most of the time, you can just use the CF look alike by itself. You can always reinforce it in the places you neeed under the board.

I just add a little ply for the screws to bite in to. I do not have the luxury of having a CNC machine
