SOME MIGHT REMEMBER THIS
Contributor says : " The tail strike occurred during at a 1990 airshow in Harrison, Arkansas. Kelly, who was a technician for the FAA and somewhat of a camera buff, was tracking this guy flying a MiG-15 with his camera.
The pilot had just completed a loop and misjudged his pull-out. Everyone
considering themselves as potential victims, took-off running in all directions.
But Kelly had a non-threatening position with strong motivation to take the
picture. So just as the MiG scraped the ground, Kelly captured this rare image.
Had it been circulated at the time, this clear, once in a lifetime photograph
might have earned an award.
Oh, by the way, the guy made a wide circle, lowered his landing gear, touched down then taxied in showing very minor damage."

That's more than just amazing. If you think about it, techinically, the pilot can not "pull up" because if he does, the nose will immediately slam down killing him. He has to work off of the AOA he's got from the maneuver.
If he pulls up, the tail can not go any further down. Thus the increased drag would likely drop his nose............

Remember also this one.........[sm=frown.gif]
This Thunderbird pilot was not so lucky after his altimeter QNH-QFE setting mistake.....wonder if the mig's pilot done something similar.......(you don't "just" misjudge a pull-out.......)
Very good they both walked away unharmed but Ã*n my humble opinion they don't exactly deserve a "wow" and compliments.....after all some HUGE mistake was done to start with......

looks like a model to me.
Not a whole lotta 'heat shimmer' out of the pipe and no evidence (hard to see) of any up elevator either.

Sean, I hear what your saying and your right, BUT the fulcrum point is at the tail under the elevator, ... not behind it. Up input wouldn't do much in this case. Plus I don't see any flying ground debris scattering out.
