Don, I would like to see of photo of your setup, it make sense to distribute the load on the wing panels.
Thanks for the tip
Rich
I will be testing thursday, and I'll post thurs nite or fri...

Wings must be able to withstand 10G. With a fuelled up plane of about 8-9 kgrs (or a bit more), it means some 90 kgrs, or the weight of an adult person hanging under it.
No joke here, this is a serious test.

Nicolas,
I am interested in finding out how you determined that the airframe needs to withstand 10 G?[X(]

I believe that if I were to hang (figuratively speaking*) on my Baby Boomerang the wings would snap off (I weigh 82 kgs)

* (of course this assumes an even distribution of weight over the wing area as Don suggested.)

Remember the photos I posted in post 329 from my buddy, he was burning the mid night oil last night and he sent the following photos of the outer wing panel conversion completed.
By cutting just one bay it was a simple fix and he covered with a nice red stripe so you can't even tell the wing underwent surgery.

I have been concentrating of the center section modifications which i will post later in the week.

Version 2 ? Is done already. We're talking about an endless soap opera here or a Rambo 8-sequel ("Rambo : the final return" - or - "Rambo : how I fought the battle with my skin wrinkles -with night creme-" )

Rich, there is also another solution : let's try to lose some weight together !

I agree and disagree...but am really curious where you got your #'s and am open to opinions

Agree: VERY serious test
Disagree: The relevant weight for a SPAR test (hanging underneath it) is the weight the wing will carry, ie the FUSE weight only.
Agree: The OVERALL test (to include skins and ribs, much harder to determine) must consider the entire weight including wing.
Disagree: I think 10g is too LOW a figure, but I have no factual basis for that claim.

Seanreit tests his wings (don't know the method) to 30 (!) G's. I will be disappointed if I cannot pass a 20G test tomorrow (primarily a spar test)

RCISFUN, I'll bet that BB wing can do 10G easily (?).

It was bound to happen

Here is what I sent to the guy on E-Bay

Please take this in the sprint that it is intended, This model is NOT turbine capable as you advertise, actually your ad is directly from the Nitro Models ad.
Believe me when I tell you this as I own one and am in the middle of extensive modifications to the airframe. Best Regards RCISFUN

Because they are crap???

No but the wings do, as does the undercarriage and the booms... did i forget something? A little more serious an issue than some paint flaking and overspray in the wing tubes wouldnt you say?
Also I very much doubt the foremost designer/ manufacturer will replace every defective part without question.. .
If we are going to make comparisons...........

The ForeSkin 150 is a good airframe just dont put a turbine inside it without redoing the whole fuselage dont you agree?
shall we all let this one go , before we start trowing pictures at each other?.
i got a pile of Formost coming, i see a good bonfire at jets over pampa,s if they allow it...

Sounds good to me Sandor.
How about we start a Foretoast combat cup. Glow or electric power only of course.
Or the other way is you bring the kits and I bring the paraffin and matches I wonder if they will even burn properly!

Default RE: What do you think of FORMOST 150 ?

Hello Everyone,

I am just home now after having picked up a new set of wings from Digitech Turbines.

While there, Sandor gave me a cutter knife and we did remove the bottom skin of one wing panel.

It is very obvious why the wing failed, the manufacturer made a huge mistake.
Such construction flaw and error is unforgivable, if this would be the automobile industry this would be good enough for a total recall of all cars already out there.
I think it would be only fair from Fly-Models towards every customer who has one already, to offer them a new set of wings.
The wing spar is a laser cut filmsy balsa strip (= not the worst part), but is INSTALLED IN THE WRONG GRAIN (NERVE) DIRECTION.
This means, all nerves of the whole internal structure are all of them horizontally and this means the wing is ready to split open at the first shock or serious wing force (like bending the wings).

In my case, it means the spar has split open from the wing root to about the mid of the wing, including all ribs in between both ends.

On top of that (and as a result), most of the ribs between the leading edge and the mid spar are smashed.

I do not see any reason why the manufacturer made all the oval openings in the balsa ribs either.

There is no excuse at all for such construction flaw, and no excuse even for the use of a turbine like we do.

Every single wing made this way, for use with combustion engines, electric, turbine, or even glider, is bound to split open completely sooner or later.

Fly-Models China, take your responsability and replace all these wings out there for good ones !
Remove all the oval openings in your design, make a thicker wing spar (with preference in good quality plywood), use the wood grains in the good direction, and cover all wing surfaces first with 80 grams/sqm epoxy resin+glass fiber, and use 160 gr/sqm for the mid part, before covering with Oracover/Monokote like now.

If you succeed in doing that, plus make us properly designed fuselage bulkheads, this kit is market ready. But not now.

As for me, I will show how I will reinforce and correct my own new set of wings. It is quite simple, now I know the flaw.

Photos in next posts to come.

Nicolas.

Default RE: What do you think of FORMOST 150 ?

Note for good understanding that these photos were taken after removing carefully the bottom skin of the wing.

The broken wing ribs, split spars, etc are SOLELY here because of the structure ALREADY broken, and not by us removing carefully the balsa skin.

++++ AGAIN : DO NOT FLY WITH THE ORIGINAL WINGS LIKE THEY ARE ++++

Nicolas.

Only for explanation & illustrational purpose ; but this is HOW IT MUST BE !!!

It is a mistake even beginners wouldn't make.... [&:]

(Note there are hardwood strips behind the spar, top and bottom ; these can be selected of much thicker and wider size, too !)
