I purchased the appropriate polyester cloth yesterday and gave it a try today. wow!!! Terry's technique works fantastic. I highly recommend it and look forward to glassing the rest of the plane over the next couple of days.
the blue million feels weird but sands smooth as silk. [sm=thumbup.gif]
I got the main gear doors on today in addition to the glassing the vertical fins and laying CF on the bottom of the wings. building has been this fun in a long time.
can someone tell me the distance from the nose gear mounting plate to the vertical former which is forward of the nose gear plate.
thanks
buck

whats everyone doing as far as airtanks for the gear an such.. so far i've got 2 large and 2 medium tanks for the gear and doors and 1 large tank for the wheel and speedbrakes. But with that many tanks, i'm havin a hard time finding room for the pumps, UAT's and ecu's. so i'm thinking of knocking it down to 2 large and 1 medium tank for gear and doors, and 1 medium for wheel and speed brakes.. Guess i'll pump the system up as it is now and see how many cycles i can get with the entire setup and decide then if i can accept a smaller capacity w/ less cycles, after all, you only need 2 up/down cycles per flight max right. lol

Hey lavi rider,
Interested in what you have done there with your main gear doors if im seeing what I think im seeing... Am I correct that you have cut the majority of the curve from the inboard edge of the front and rear inboard doors?

Buck,
The former you refer to is located approx 2" forward of the nose gear mount plate.
I'll measure mine tonight, if you like.

thanks for the offer but it looks like there may be a difference between the new epoxy kits and the polyester kits. mine is the older variant and the plans show it nestled against the nose gear mounting plates which are on the fuselage walls.

For anyone interested:
2 Large Robart air tanks w/ One BVM high-flow valve (on gear) and 1 standard robart valve (on door cylinders (11 total)) Operates the gear a total of 18 times from a pressure of 100psi to 30psi. The gear works perfectly everytime. The Doors work perfectly everytime for the first 9 times. after that 3 or 4 of the doors won't close, but the gear still works great.

anyone happen to know right off hand what would be the best type of rubber compound to use for tires? I've been looking at some liquid rubber and mold making stuff, and i've got time and thought it might be worth the effort to make some molds to make a pair of hard rubber tires that will fit the original F-18 rims. what does everyone else think of that?
