I can give you better pics tonight in an hour or so. By the way, I did the NACA scoop only because I have a 1 Liter (old style) smoke tank installed. I wanted to be sure the engine (P-80 SE) could breathe freely.

I made a few hundred flights with my Reaction with a P-120 and did not install the NACA duct, there were never any issues breathing. ironically I sold it 2 years ago and it never left the shop and will now be mine again, so looking into an alternative powerplant, thinking my P-60 would make for a incredibly light and slow fun plane.

I've gone through this entire thread, and unless I've missed it, I haven't seen anyone using a K-80 in the Reaction. Anyone have experience with this combination ?

HI.
I used a K80 for just on 20 hours flying of grass before I put my 140 in it, the 140 is a far better option unlimited verticals and much nicer to fly

Hi all.
maidened my reaction short nose on the weekend.
overall it went really well. I set the cg at 15.5 cm and it didn't feel at all tail heavy.
power comes from a kingtech 140 and i have put a set of electron retracts in it.
These are my first electric retracts and very happy with their performance so far.
This is the first model i have ever flown that needs zero elevator correction when inverted.
felt quite strange at first actually. I have never flown a pattern plane before but i reckon the reaction would give one a run for its money . Well maybe not but it does fly nice...
Probably my only regret was not putting the speed brake on. Sure i have to get used to landing it but the 140's idle thrust kept it in the air for longer than expected. Maybe crow braking would help. has anyone tried this on a reaction?
Flight time was about 8 minutes and i still had a quarter of the main (3.8l) tank.
Flaps make a cool whistling sound when lowered. Love it
Would recommend this plane for sure. Have had an Elan and Baby Boomer and the reaction is about as easy to fly as these two.

Just finished mine,ready for maiden flight.P100,Electron retracts/Pro link struts/wheels/brakes.Came out at 25.5lbs dry with no weight added.CG set at 15cm approx.

I use a kingtech k80f.Just maidened last weekend.Dry weight is about 11 kg.In my opinion ,This spec. is nice for a beginner.If you used to fly with fast sport plane before,you feels it's a little bit slow.

Just wanted to report on my experience using crow breaking on the reaction.
Tried crow for the first time today and did 8 landings with crow active.
Here are my initial observations -
Definately helped to slow the model down. I had zero wind blowing and touching down where I wanted seemed easier.
Aileron sensitivity was decreased by about 50%. I think it would be good to reduce expo in the landing condition (this is the condition I have crow on).
Elevator sensitivity was also decreased. Maybe by about 30%. This caught me out a little at first and I ended up over correcting a bit. After a few flights had it sorted.
Overall I think crow works great. With a bit of fine tuning it should help alot here. We have hardly any wind in the mornings which is when I usually fly.
On another note I now have 40 litres of diesel through the K140. I am using mobil DTE light oil. The reason I am trying diesel is that its so hard to get jet fuel where I am living.
I am pretty pleased with the performance really. Starts take a bit longer and when you shut down there is a bit of white smoke. Apart from that it runs perfect. I was really worried that
there would be that horrible diesel smell but its actually quite the opposite. Hardly any smell at all. One thing I would say, if you are thinking of running diesel, make sure you try it on the bench first.
The ECU default parameters work fine with kero but not with diesel. You will get a mighty big flame out the back at startup on default parameters.

Another 5 flights on the Reaction today.
Have decreased the amount of crow by about 25% and am quite happy with it now.
This plane really grows on you the more you fly it.
Have about 25 flights on diesel now and the K140 is still going strong. Will be interesting to see what the verdict is when I get it serviced.

As with you the DTE is going great for me. I will continue using it until I hit 20 hours and then send the engine back to the factory for inspection.
The whole diesel experience has been an interesting one for me.
To start with there is a bit of messing around with ecu parameters. Once this is sorted it starts and runs as normal. In fact I think it runs better than on JetA1 but that's only my opinion. Nothing to back this up.
Only down side I can see is the smoke that comes out on shutdown. No big one I guess.

I recently got a long nose reaction. I'm experienced a sudden nose down condition when landing with full flaps. This causes me to quickly, and sometime over correct, which put me in a bad spot (speed, height) for the landing. This never happened to me with the short nosed one.
In the clip below, you can see the effect at around 1:38 sec.
I do not use any crow.
CG is as per instructions (15.5cm from leading edge)
Flaps are at 60 degrees.
Not sure if I have a CG issue or just too much flap.
Ideas?

I am going with the same CG and will use 15 degrees for TO flap and 50 degrees for landing flap. Mine is built completely stock with no additional weight needed other than what was glued in the nose at the factory. I am not using the speed brake nor crow at this time. I suspect crow will be added after at least five good solid flights.
Open for any advice from PST short nose reaction owners as to their final set ups.

it may be a little on the too much nose heavy side.i generally like slight nose heavy but to much will cause the extreme down nose when hitting landing flaps...also you may want to take out about 20 degrees off your full flap...too much full flap will take away from your elevator making it hard to get the nose up...try setting 40 to 45 degrees on full flap along with a little crow...and most of all check your cg again...pat

Edgar, I hate to muddy the waters, but in my opinion it looks like the model may be slightly tail heavy. This shows up as pitch sensitivity during landing approach. I suggest adding 2-4 ounces of lead in the nose and see what you think on the next flight or two.

It was quite windy on the approach.
Maybe the wind just caught it for a second?
You recovered well and it flew the rest of the landing fine.
