Thank you. Mine weighs 30 lbs without fuel, but yours may be a little lighter. They fly great and you will enjoy.

........but be careful guys !

This jet has a BIG thick wing which makes it VERY manoeverable . Wont spin or snap however provoked ! Totally docile.

However, a few flights ago I was doing square loops with it and the wing tube bent !

The alloy tube Is now replaced with a STRONG carbon fibre tube!

Do you have a link for the carbon tube you used?

I get my carbon fibre here in the UK from Easy Composites.
One fix I would suggest is to Hysol a carbon fibre tube or rod inside the normal tube, before it bends !

My Reaction is currently awaiting use (CV lockdown) with my Powerbox Core radio and I have installed a V speak vario. which incorporates an accelerometer so I can see exactly how much G is being pulled. Iwill then test my CF tube with a measured load plus 50 % to ensure it is more than strong enough.

The airframe itself is showing no signs of overstress.

The Reaction is a real fun machine, mine is at least 10 years old and its later version, the Revision is also a superb flying machine, both of mine are powered by PST 1300s, excellent engines.

T used to fly mine with a VT-80 and did very well. With yours it should fly very good.

I used Hysol to add a solid wood dowel centered inside my wing tube that is about 2/3 length of wing tube. If you go this route use a smaller dowel with emery cloth to scuff the ID of the wing tube before bonding.

Mine flies fine with a Jetcat P70. Full throttle only used for uplines. Your 100 will be fine.

Flies great with a 100. Great trainer or every day flyer.

Have greatly enjoyed this thread. Just picked up a yellow short nose serial # R0111. Been flying since 2007. Everything from EDF's to 1/5 and 1/4 scale warbirds. This is my first turbine, but have plenty of support. Will be using a Kingtech K-100 for power. Waiting on parts and turbine so I can make trays as necessary. Also ordered fuel tubing to replace them all. This has been an incredibly informative and useful thread. Have a friend that has the long nose version with a K-140. extremely fast. I'm okay with mine being slower... No problem. I couldnt help but notice the lack of gyros on the builds. Probably not necessary, but I'm using a Spektrum 12ch powersafe rx and also have the AS3000 Flight stabilizer. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and great paint jobs btw. Will hopefully maiden in a couple of weeks.

Best of luck on your maiden RCPilot1726. You will love how the Reaction fly's.

Great choice for a first jet. I love mine with the k100. I don’t think it needs any more. As for gyro, this plane just doesn’t need it. No bad habits. The as3000 will really lock it in. I recommend doing test flights without the gyro. My reaction is currently my goto plane. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Good luck with the maiden, and keep us posted.

Default Reactions and Gyros

RCPilot1726,

Welcome to the Reaction Club; it’s a great model and you should have plenty of fun with it. It doesn’t need a gyro but if you insist on using one, do yourself a favor and put the AS3000 aside for a foamy and install a Cortex or iGyro.

Jim

I agree that you don’t need a gyro. I don’t have one in my reaction. But, what is wrong with as3000. I run one in my pilot RC 2.2m Predator. It works well. I run a cortex in my sprint and a mercury with Igyro in my Euro. They all work. Each has its quirks when setting up. As long as you take your time as3000 works as good as the rest.

Thanks for all the replies. I don’t necessarily plan on using the as3000 but I already have it so will try it out. Just happened to have it from before and never used it. It doesn’t seem that this plane would need it but let’s see how it goes. The Viper has always been my absolute favorite jet ever. I also realized it’s probably bette to get started on something more docile.

cant beat the reaction. That being said the viper is a very forgiving airplane too.

How far from the receiver should I mount the fuel pump? Not sure if it matters but I thought I read that somewhere. Thanks

So installation is all done and almost ready to maiden. Looking back through some of these pages trying to figure out preferred balancing method. Upside down/right side up, gear retracted. Has anyone used a vanessa rig to balance? What other options are there. Quick finger test shows it to be tail heavy. Seems way off. ECU and rx batts are shoved all the way to the front. This is the short nosed version with a K-100 for power. How much weight on average have you guys had to add for CG?

PST made a molded lead weight to epoxy in the nose. This should help on the short nose Reaction ARF. I also cut a hatch in the nose section and put my receiver batteries in the nose. Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul, mine already has that lead in the nose. Just put it on the Vanessa rig as suggested. Right side up, wheels down, and uat full. I cut a hatch underneath just in front on the gear. Got some lead powder and mixed with epoxy. 1lb exactly. So far it’s at 26 lbs main tank empty. Gonna recheck Vanessa. Should be just right on.

Does anyone know if there is an electric conversion for the pneumatic Dreamwoks Pro-Link retracts and brakes for the PST Reaction? Looking to simplify

I have Dreamworks Pro-Link struts in my Reaction and mounted them to Electron ER-40 retracts and brakes. Never any issues.

Thanks Harvey. I have a few questions if you don't mind
1) Did you also use the Pro-Link nose strut with pull-pull steering?
2) I take it you can buy the Electron gear with the correct trunion for the Pro-Link nose and main gear...is it 1/2" dia?
3) Were you able to re-use the main wheels with the Electron brakes or did you have to use specific wheels?
4) you wouldn't happen to have a listing of what you purchased from Electron?

George

Hi George, I put my Reaction together over 7 years ago and I don't remember everything. I'll try to answer what I can:
1) Yes, Pro-Link nose strut, but without pull-pull steering. I got the Electron nose retract with servo plate for direct steering, see attached photo.
2) Yes, you can buy with correct trunion. I don't remember if it was 1/2", however I think it is. Whatever the Pro-Link end diameter is, Electron has that trunion size.
3) I used Electron wheels that the brakes fit into.
4) Sorry, no list. They sell sets with and without struts. I know I got the tri-gear ER-40 set with nose gear servo plate and wheels and brakes.
I hope this helps.
