JR 8611 and 8711 - quick survey needed
Has anybody out there had a JR 8611 or 8711 servo fail?
If so did it fail "rigid" or did it seize up?? Not even that bothered what caused the failure - just need to know its failed state.
Would like to know as I am just planning the final install of my Skygate Hawk elevator pushrod and answers to this question will take me down the route of solution (a) or (b)!!
Cheers,
Mark

I think you will find that the failure rate cannot be compared because they are so similar and the 8711 is so new.
do you need 300Oz torque or 400. either will be excellent.
There are HUGE numbers of 8611A'a out there, so they can be serviced easlily too. thats what's on my jet and a bunch of others.
the aerobatics guys are running 8711's on rudders mostly, but if its a big jet, go for it.
personal preference.

Goose,
Thanks. I'm not after comparisons of the servos. I have had dozens of 8511, 8611 and 8711 servos and all have been great with zero failures.
I just wondered if anyone had had a failure with any of these servos, did the servo fail in a seized state or could the arm still be moved manually?
It's all to do with some linkage geometry vs. possible servo failure in the Skygate Hawk elevator mechanism.
cheers,
Mark

Something else to think about. If one does lock up will it draw more amps and cause the volts to drop to an unsafe level??

I think Raffy (ravill) had an 8611A seize on him. He also sent back a few 8611 for the motor upgrade. He may chime in on that one.

I had a 8611A sieze while I was setting up my flash. I had everything installed and on. I was setting the throws on the elevator. I watched the aileron slowly move to max throw and sieze. It was very wierd. They sent me a new servo. I have had many 8611 -8711 servos, at least 50. That was the only servo death I have seen.

have had some failures on the 8411/8611 - motors burnt and so on - the main problem for me on these servos were gear wear - so much so that i have moved away to the titanium gear servos with great results

I observed two 8611 failures. I had one failure of an 8611 on the right elevator on my Boomerang XL. It failed with free movement and went to center due to airflow. I was still able to fly and land with no problem. The failure I observed was on my late friend Tom Dodgen's KingCat at the Mississippi Afterburner event two years ago. This time the failure was to full up and locked on the right elevator. Tom was able to land safely, but only due to exceptional piloting. I don't think this helps your decision any. Maybe you should not use one on the right elevator.
Good luck.
Good luck.
