RE: PAUL GRAY JAS GRIPEN
Hi,
I bought this as my winter project, and it is now Winter
I have a couple of options:
1. Sell it
2. Put the OS91VRDF into it & use it as a ducted fan
3. Put a Wren 45 / P60 in it.
Option 3 is currently under serious consideration:
Issues:
VERY small fuel tank so will definitely need more fuel tanks
Retracts - will the Spring Air Slimelines take the additional weigh of a turbine & all the electronics
All advice gratefully received.
thanks
Tom

Hi Tom
I love to buy your Jas if you will sell it but frightcost will be a problem and a package for it.
Bob Try to find an Dynamax fan much better to be electrified give you more speed and climbing just have your outlett to max 83mm and you have an rocket.

RE: PAUL GRAY JAS GRIPEN
Hi guys,
Option4: EDF
Now that would be interesting so I will read up on this idea. It would be cheaper than a turbine I guess and I can use the batteries in my F3a Synergy. All and any ideas are gratefully received.
The manual is quoting a weight of 11.5lb which I guess includes the engine & fan unit.
Cheers

RE: PAUL GRAY JAS GRIPEN
Nice to see pics of my old Gripen design.
My advice would be to fit a Wren 44 Gold.
The new ones are pushing out 11lbs + and the fuel weight is half that of a P60.
Fuel tanks will be easier to locate as well.
This will keep the weight closer to the original desin weight and keep wing loadings similar.
It would be a great model with a 44, it was good enough with a ramtec and OS 91!

Hello everyone!
Bought my Paul Gray Gripen a few weeks ago.

RE: PAUL GRAY JAS GRIPEN
Hi guys, I used to make the Gripen for Paul Gray but I cannot remember where the CG should be. I know the Viggen CG was 100mm back from the leading edge of the wing and I would imagine it's in a similar place but don't quote me.
I am sure it will easily handle a turbine especially a Wren 44 as Paul suggested. Maybe lighter than an OS91 and Dynamax as that unit with the pipe weighed about 3.5 pounds and I'm sure the Wren is less than that.
Good luck with it.

RE: PAUL GRAY JAS GRIPEN
Greetings Foxman (Jim),
Bob has my kit of the Paul Grey Gripen and I asked him to post the C.G. from the instructions. It's "145 mm back from the point where the wing hatch separates from the fuselage."
If I had a Wren 44, that's likely the engine I'd use. When I eventually build it (I've got two other Gripens in line ahead of it) I'm not sure which turbine I'll use but preferably it will be one that I already own . Who knows, maybe I might even go electric. [X(][X(][X(]
Regards,
Jim

RE: PAUL GRAY JAS GRIPEN
Hi Jim, I reckon the Wren is the answer to this size of jet. You could put it right in the back of the wing space with the fuel over the cg.

Gents
The 145 mm is correct but as the tanks are behind the cg (df version) it is set with the tanks full (check instructions).
145 is the most rearward it gets, as the fuel burns off it moves forward.
Keep that in mind when converting to turbine.
Hi Mr Fox (or foxy Jim!) good to see you here [8D]

RE: PAUL GRAY JAS GRIPEN
Just bought a JJ 1400 rebuilt with Wren products, that I will try to put in the Paul Gray Gripen. I will also rebuild the gripen if necessary.
In case of rebuilding, I will rejoin the wing and body forever, and make a servicehatch from the upperside of the body.If any of you guys have build one of this beauties with a turbine, i would like to see somephotos of the installation.
Regards
Magnus

RE: PAUL GRAY JAS GRIPEN
Dear Visitors!
We are glad to see that our Gripen model video has been
appeared on the RC.Jets forum.
Here are the details of the model:
- JAS-39 Gripen B/D two seater.
- Scale: 1:5,5
- Body length: 2,69 m
- Wing span: 1,53 m
- Weight: max. 20 Kg
As this model has been made into the F4J scale jet class world
masters, this model has to perfectly match the original fighter. The
model had been built by this goal.
All the functions are working as the orginal functions on the real fighter.
So the flaps, canard, airbrakes, gears, cabin opening, full light system
with position stripes and so on...
We are over a 32 probe stars, and more needed, however the flight behaviour
is quite good!
Planned speed interval is: slow 50-60 Km/h, fast 250 Km/h.
The basic idea of building and creating this model is originated from Janos Horvath
whose company also built a really good turbine to this series. This it the HOFEM 180 N
turbine with 20-21 KN thrust on 118.000 rpm. Also the full landing gear system is made
in this factory.
The cockpit was built by Laszlo Lorincz who build other cockpit types for other planes too.
The body of the Gripen was planned and created by Jozsef Fekete in some thousands of
working hours around in 5 years.
Our helpers in constructing the model: Gyorgy Szabo, Tibor Kurilla, Lajos Molnar, Emil Arvai,
Laszlo Lorincz and many help comes from Sweden! Thanks for all of them.
The body is made of fully glass-carbon-cevlar + epoxi compozit.
Here you can see some photos about it.
More information is comming soon in this spring on the following website: http://jetmodell.uw.hu
(please note that this website will be updated very soon this year)
