well guys I see most of the hypothesizing so far is based on the premise that the actual 2.4 system is bullet proof.....175 flights on f5e same radio no prob....I am sure the radio wasnt dropped or misshandled...so what theory fits for that?....also most important point...our rc systems according to fcc law must take the "hit" and not cause it....wanna make any system more bulletproof?...increase the power output in whats....most interesting thing....you get in an airplane and they hand you a parachute..it says something right?...so the fact that all 2.4 systems come with failsaife means what?...maybe it was a selling point..i dont know......run this experiment: if the radio gimbal or whatever is at fault you will be able to duplicate it...my guess is that you wont in 200 flights duplicate that scenario...its hit or miss ..imho

WOW Dom. This is unbelievable!

Once in a while I poke my head breifly into the FASST thread, I read of 2 crashes and I didn't realize the two crashes were yours!

I am so sorry to hear this! Especially about a guy who checks and rechecks everything.

Limp it off Dom, 'cause it HAS to get better from now on... it has to.

Truly gut wrenching to have read this news.

Thanks Mike.
I plan on building another Phantom as soon as I can afford it. I truely loved this jet and it hurts bad. But I will survive!!

I've got a 10C of a friends here that is the 2.4 FAAST setup that uses a module type setup. I know JR had issues w/ their module converted 2.4 systems w/ the modules not making contact with the pins very well causing problems. Is it a possibility that this could be a module connection problem?

It could be any number of things. A lot of focus has been on the pots since it is a weak link in the chain but all other aspects of the transmitter should be considered. I am convinced the transmitter sent the down elevator commands.

On the Phantom you said the plane went into a gentle down slope and crashed and you had no elevator control. I have a crazy question. Did rudder, throttle, airleron, and everything else work or did the entire transmitter go dead??

That happened to me once. The elevator pushrod got disconnected from the surface. I watched it go down as well.

Of course, not saying this is what happenned for the F-4

Dom,
how was your transmitter antenna orientated, straight or bent?

Dom,
Sorry to hear of your losses. Been reading thru the end of the thread. One question I had was: Both planes basically had the same problem, was the time from take off to impact the same on both jets?

HI Dom, man that sucks, two jets in one day. Dom , the first thing I would do is get rid of all those NOBS batteries. I thought they where the greatest when they first can out, so I bought a whole bunch of them. You know, I never ever got the rated cap. of these batteries, secondly, they don't winter very well.
When I had one cell die, I returned it and they replaced it, then, another pack, hardly used, a cell went dead, returned it and NOBS, didn't even reply.
I just bought a really good load tester at Toledo and when I tested another 5 cell pack, one cell really pulled the 5.2v pack, down to 4.2v at 1amp. load, so I removed the bad cell and now have a 4cell pack.
This week, I am cycling all my packs and the Kingcat had one 5cell 1950 mah. pack at 760 mah. well another pack going in the garbage.
All my jets are going over to 123 packs.

Pete,

I thought that the NOBS batteries are Sanyo cells? I have been using Sanyo cells for quite a few years with great luck, but my local source just went to really cheap Chinese cells, so I tried NOBS as an alternate source...

Great news.
Jetcat repaired both P-160SX turbines and Bob Wilcox said they look and run like bran new. Well they are bran new. Best of all they still carry the 3 year warranty as if nothing ever happened. They have already left Jetcat and are on their way to me!!

More Great news.
My new Feibao F-4J is in line for paint at the factory. Catherine said they will start the paint job at the end of next week and I should have the jet in about a month. I wont have it ready for KY Jets but will feel great about having it in the shop.

Hi Marc.
I decided to stick with Futaba and bought another bran new 12FGA from Tower. I have been flying my F-18 and L-39 with the new transmitter with excellent results. I will bring the A-4 and Panther out next time.

I spoke to Catherine today (Via E-Mail) and she said my F-4J is packed and ready to ship. We are just waiting for final shipping instructions. Can't wait to see my new Baby. This will be a winter project at this point since the flying season is well under way. I will have to wait another year to fly my dream jet[&o] It will feel good just getting the jet in the door and knowing it's waiting for me.

Did you ever get the "offending" Tx checked by Futaba? did they find anything?
