Default Mick Reeves Venom Info

I am thinking about building one of these and would like some feedback. How does it fly and would a P-60 be enough. How are his accessories for the kit such as retracts, wheels and brakes.Should I buy everything from him or change out certain things.I seen some other threads but wanted to get some updated info. Thanks in advance

Here's the thread Richard refered to...

...by Ian Bailey, who's built 2 of Mick's Venoms. Ian tells it as it is so the whole thread's worth reading.

Cheers,

Mick's kits are fabulous value and incredibly scale. The component quality is not, to say, BVM standard, but the price is way below and fantastic value, one of the best kept secrets in jet modelling. Steve Brett's Venom flies superbly as does Mick's Javelin, Hunter and Lightning. If you are prepared to make a bit of an effort to do some real modelling you will be well rewarded with a fine flying and very accurate model.

Regards,

David Gladwin.

I had a Venom kit.

I didn't get very far with it at all. All I can say is that it needs a LOT of work. I would also go as far as saying that you need quite a bit of skill to get a decent model out of it at the end. I have a great deal of respect for Ian Bailey for the quality of his completed models having seen the kit.

Don't get wrong, I am not saying the kit is bad; I would consider getting another one. You just need to know what you're getting yourself into. The kits aren't really that expensive and as David says, if you want to put the effort in, the end result would be superb.

I built Mick's Venom. The build thread mentioned above was a great help.Ian's airplane is a scale masterpiece, mine I built as a sports jet without to many scale features. The airplane is a lot of work and definately not for the beginner. However,it flys like a trainer and would be a great first jet.Stay away from the mechanical retracts and use normal air driven units.I have a PST 600 in mine and it is perfect and purrs like a kitten. Also I beefed up the wings and spars a little just to handle my landings.I still have it but it's a little war weary.Maybe this winter I'll claen her up for the season ahead.Cheers.John
