Thanks for the info Jim. I'm really looking forward to flying the plane. How are your landings without flaps? Have you done any stall tests to see how high an AoA you can get to help slow down the landings?

RE: Fei Bao smaller F5
Can anyone tell me what servos they've used for the tailerons please? Mine is almost ready to fly, but I've got HS5645's on the tailerons and they operate at different speeds, even thought they're programmed to be the same. I'm not sure I trust them. I was thinking of replacing them with JR DS8411's or Futaba S9551's. I've read testing results which show the S9551 to be on of the most accurate servos out there - http://www.ofremmi.info/F3A/Technic/...st_results.htm , just not sure about the torque capability of it.
Also, with the CG at the correct spot it seems very heavy on the nosewheel, looks like it will need a ton of up elevator to rotate - is this correct?

Getting closer to maidening my F-5, Az weather is still pretty hot(especially for EDF'S). Still have a leaking o-ring on the brakes to sort out. Power is the Stumax Sm 110-45 on 12s.

Was able to get a flight in today on my f-5, flew really nice with a Stumax 110-45 on 12s 5000 mah's packs. Some retract and sequencing issues to sot out but other then that its a sweet flying jet!!

I used the stock intakes, had to cut them back about 6 inches from the fan for the gear to clear. I put a lip on the fan, actually more like a bellmouth to help with the static thrust. This flight was only about 2 1/2 minutes and I used about 2000 mah's out of the 5000 mah xps 30c packs (2 6s to make the 12s set up). I could probably get 5 minute flights once I figure the gear problem out. Only got 2 to retract, on the ground they work great! I did lose a strut cover in flight, I have to contact Mike Lin and see if I can get another one, if not I can make one up. The inflight data from the ice 160 showed 106.9 amps, 4550 watts, 36, 800 rpm's and the temp of the esc got up to 122 degrees. On the ground its about 9 lbs. of static thrust, but I would guess in the air that bumps up to about 11 lbs. Stu's fan is better in the air then on the ground.

Mike, please, please please glue some sort of ply frame above the gap in the inlets to screw the esc to! I'm just imagining what's gonna happen to it if the velcro lets go.......

Stu I know it looks like it can get sucked in there, but the velcro is just holding the wires down. I was gonna screw it to the ducting, but I would be more worried about the one of the screws backing out and getting sucked in. I cant wait to get this thing back in the air, I did the gear mod so I should have no problems with them hangin up, so I should be able to get it buttoned up on the next flight. I removed the other outer door, and when I get around to it, I want to replace the plastic hinges with carbon fiber. I wanted to nail the throttle the other day but was afraid I would rip some more doors off.

RE: Fei Bao smaller F5
Here is my just got it done ready for maiden on Tet day.
This F-5 had everything light weight. The fan, gear, wheels/brake, struts and installation kept it simple to save every ounce here and there.
Yes it our fully ducting conversion.
So I got it AUW 13.8 bls with 12s 5000mAh.
Since I got it so light. So choose to use low power set up 3kw at 68A.

Looks good Tam! Please keep us informed on the results of the test flight. I wish there was some more info. out there on EDF performance with bifurcated tail pipes...

The split area is most cretical. Ketp it round to reduce drag.
I know one guy here in California know alot about bifurcated pipe.[sm=lol.gif]

That 's cool Tam! As you know from my last order, I have two A-4's to do, a Yellow and a JHH, for me and Louie, but maybe after those...
What batteries do you use Tam?

Venom is been working pretty good for me. I had abuse them and it still hold good voltage.
But I do use Hobby King Nano too for low power set up don't need the high discharge rate.
