Default Matrix Auto Paint

Has anyone had experience with Matrix auto paints (base coat/clear coat system)? There is a dealer conveniently near my shop, and the manager is willing to sell small quantities.

Thanks for any info.

I like it....from what I understand the guys that started Matrix worked for PPG and took
a bunch if not all the PPG line formula's with them as PPG did not honor a contract with
them. That is hearsay but I can't tell any difference in the two except the clear was a
little softer. Cost is really good as well.

So far I have had no problems with any of there paints or clear. I gave some of there clear to a friend of mine who has used alot of other companies and now thats all he will use is the Matrix clear.

Yea I should have said I bought their clear a couple of years ago and it had a little
amber tint and was a little soft. Found out from other car guys they had the same
problem. When I was in the supply house a few weeks back we were yaking about
it and they said all the new stuff is great and took me in the back an opened a can
to show me...so as long as its hard it will be fine.

PS if you have any ppg left over you can mix them together fine.

Chuck,
Matrix paint has been around since 1983....the story about disgruntled PPG guys is probably another urban myth.

Harley, Wouldn't doubt that But there must be something that happened as
wouldn't you think PPG would have sued Matrix for their formula's? I mean all
their stuff works with PPG's and vice versa. Got that info from the supply shop
but who knows

I've used it for the last 3 yrs and I never heard of it before that. Can't beat
it for the price for sure IMHO.

Ok just want to set the record straight the owner Kent Garnder worked for Macco and decided to make better paint. He started Matrix automotive. the way they came up with the formulas was to hire a bunch of lab guys to design formulas similar to PPG. 3 years ago Kent sold the company to a company called quest chemical. Kent reciently passed away due to cancer.

FWIW, I did decide to use the Matrix paint on my latest project, and it worked fine. Prices were good, the dealer was very accommodating. I'd buy it again.

Is that a scratch build? Really "hot" looking jet.

Hi Eddie. Yeah, a scratch build. I was trying to do "heat" without flames. It does light up a bit in the bright sun.
