RE: yellow aircraft f4 phantom???
Kevin,
The original DF version of F4 is made for wire-struts. I have tried to re-build the wheel-bays to accomodate a more scale looking gears and are going to add doors. It is hard to find suitable solutions due to the thicknes of the wing and that there are no commercial gears to find, to my knowledge.
Can you please add some more details about your doors, pictures. And also if you can help me with the undercarrige, where you bought things and so on and .....
The doors that are linked to the struts, are they flush to the wing panel/surface or is it laying "on top" of the surface? Do you use pneumatic controlled inner door?
All the best
Bengt

RE: yellow aircraft f4 phantom???
Hey Guys,
Looking for an F4 to drop my 14lb Jet Central Super Bee into. Jet hangar Hobbies F4 looks good (if I had an extra 150 hours available to build and paint her). Yellow looks like a wiser choice as far as time commitment but I am not sure about its all up weight and here in Denver I can expect to lose about 3 lbs thrust due to altitude so I in essence have an 11lb powerplant.
Any guidance would be appreciated, and ESPECIALLY if any of you guys have an F4 you want to sell....Please e-mail, pm, or call me.
Thanks,
Shaz

The gear are custom made using the spring air thin wing units. The bottom of the wing is built up and the doors are balsa built up and then hollowed out to match the wing. All the doors are then glassed and painted. The doors fit flush to the bottom of the wing not on the surface of the wing. The hollowed out areas are how the wheels and struts make it in the wells

RE: yellow aircraft f4 phantom???
Thanks a lot Kevin!! I do have SpringAir thin wing units. Even by using the thin wing retracts, it's hard to get enough space för the legs!!

Shaz,
I don't think you'll have a thing to worry about at your altitude. One of the first Y/A flights I saw was at Dixie Jet Rally, and the guy had an old O.S. .77/Dynamax and a single pipe which practically plugged up one whole side of the exhaust. After a somewhat labored takeoff, the plane whipped along very nicely.

Hello Maj Woody,
I was just looking at this Yellow F-4 post and ran across your pictures. I am going to be finishing a Yellow F-4 over the next few months with a O.S. 91 and would love to ask you some questions. I live over in the Pittsford area. My email is [email protected] or can be contacted at 585-662-4993. Hope to here from you.
Thanks,
Bruce
