Default Jet Legend F4 Phantom, Pablo's new ride

The first F4 i had delivered went to Pablo Fernandez, finished in Thunderbird scheme, and Pablo's having a great job done putting it together , this plane promises to be awesome. it's bigger than BVM's and way lighter, the gear looks like it was built to hold up a house and the finish is getting better and better, designed for a single turbine , the bifurcated s/s tailpipe is included in the kit along with the new heavy plastic molded tanks... the only criticism i can find here is the vent that is molded into the top of the tank looks a bit small to me... you may have to add another vent or enlarge the existing one. The Gear doors have always been a problem on Phantom's cos of the angle of the dangle , but these look good to me ,....nice job Mr P. I hope to have some more pix when the airframe job is completed and a vid of the maiden to post here for all you F4 Phans.......

It would be very, very difficult to paint a 1/48th scale model in the mold.

whoda.....when you know the amount of work involved to get those doors to work properly i understand anybody who orders the F4 with the factory fitted door option.... believe me the couple of hundred bucks extra is worth every penny... if your out by 1/16 of an inch on any one of the three doors they won't work at all.. so good on yer the G model will be nice ....Pablo says he'll race you to the sky....... and yes it is painted in the mold....... rockin finish !...........MK

Nice looking Thunder bird. We just got a few of them in for our club members.

Here are some additional paint schemes that we are working on.

Yes, these doors are big heaches. Iam glad that we got that installed in our ARF PRO.

I will be really surprised if those outer doors stay closed as the "spring" method has been tried before. Hopefully they have some beefy springs on there.

Are you sure it's painted in the mold? Not that you can tell from these pictures (they are very small) but Idon't see any seam lines, if there are no seam lines then it was not painted in the mold. Just wondering.

Yeah baby, Pablo's impatience got the better of him and he did the maiden at 11 am today, the F4 weighed in at 32lbs with the UAT full and nothing else..after a full check over he fueled up and taxied out , rolling down the runway to a classically pretty take off, the bird just lifted off the tarmac in less than 200 ft, powered by the Black Mamba turbine that Pablo has been testing for the manufacturer... the motor static tested at 32 lbs thrust on the RTI test stand. and was more than enough to push the bird in good verticals.. the flight was smooth and rock solid needed a few clicks to trim and then Pablo flew a few manouvers to get the feel of the Rhino , a few more circuits and then set up to land , and BINGO! the gremlin struck... the retract servo failed to bring the gear down due to having given up the ghost for no reason , $h17 happens , it was a new Hitech,,, so Pab went round again and set up for the grass, which was nice and slippery due to the heavy rainstorms we had in the past three days, he made an absolutely spot on perfect belly in, without the slightest scratch , never touched a door or wing tip and the tailplanes were 4 inches off the ground due to the shape of the F4... Those spring controlled outer doors stayed closed throughout the flight......Pablo loved the way the plane flew and commented "awesome " video will go up on the page by thursday,,, meanwhile someone asked for some pix of the install , here they are.....MK

Congradulations Pablo!

Man you guys are fast!! I'm still working on mine. Really apreciate the pictures of the install gives me some ideas with mine. I have the fiberglass tanks did they change to the plastic ones, or are those custom?

Malcom thank you for the flight report, and pics. Did Pablo make any changes to the cg on the plans, or control throws?

Maybe a little bigger servo to drive those two mech valves would be better. Some of those small jr servos do not like 6v and will crap out when under a load.

Hey Malcom, Pablo, Dave, Woody

I'm going to post a JL F-4 build thread in a week or so. Pablo and Malcom can you guys post some of your pics and flight videos in there? Don't want to take away from your thread so I'd like to wait for a few days until the excitement dies down a bit.

Again great job man that is some fast building lol

Thank you Malcom

Hope things are good for you down in Fl.

My F-4 has the older glass tanks about 1.7 L each. I was wondering as im doing a twin conversion and the glass tanks work well. Well if someone else wants to do twins maybe you can still get the glass ones from them.

Look forward for the video, and thank you for the information.
