RE: Global Jet Club / JHI F4D Skyray Product Release
So what did it fly like? Did you have many flights with yours? (enjoyable etc etc?)
I have an F15 and Jas39 and until recently a F104.
Scott.

Go 15mm each way Aileron, 30mm each way Elevator (on elevons) Expo 35-40% on aileron and 10-15% on elevator. As Andy said it flys much nicer with a gyro fitted, although without the tanks its not so bad. High alpha and using power more than pitch changes and it will land pretty slow!

Thanks for the info Dave, I see from the beginning of the thread that you have flown this model ... is it enjoyable or am I going to be holding on for dear life?

Hey Christof,
did you get some kind of a manual? If yes, I'd love to have a copy ;-)
Best regards

hello F4D community , just got my NATC version, great looking scheme, can any one help me with pictures on the fuel tank placement and form of installation, I guess I have the new tanks but don´t know and hard to figure out how much forward or back they go and how to hold them in place...

Resurecting the GJC F-4D Skyray thread.
I got this unassembled GJC ARF from Shaz Kianpoor about 8 years ago and finally have gotten around to finishing it.
Will get a Wren Supersport for push, JetTech pipe, Cortex gyro, and mods to the gear doors to make them operate in scale fashion. The original tanks (92oz total) have been cut back to a usable 72oz plus GBR CAT header tank.
This thread has been a great help in picking out some worthwhile mods and setup hints. I expect to finish up and maiden some time this Fall season.
Some more pictures of internals, etc. coming once it gets cleaned up inside.

Yes, 60n size was noted; basically here in Colorado ~5500’MSL on a mid-temperature & density altitude day the average 80n becomes a 60-65n anyway. If I did not have a Supersport already I would probably wait for a Merlin70 or go K85.
I did see Dr. Tim Brown’s ‘Ray fly on a P60 at Fort Collins, CO some years ago; flew well, but not especially energetically.

That’s right. You are at high altitudes. 70-80size engines would be better choices. It’s a clean fuselage. Fitting good size engine should be quite simple. Keep us posted. Love that nose high stance with drop tanks. Looks just like the full scale. Enjoy the build.

Yes. I would have to contact the factory for the spare parts. You can email me at [email protected] along with photos of the parts. Then we can coordinate and get the parts for you. Thanks. Mike.

Proper Martin-Baker P5 seat
Model is about ready; simply not complete without a pilot and stand off scale rendition of the proper Martin-Baker P5 ejection seat.
Have the basic structure of the seat done; details such as chute pack, harness, face curtain handle, and paint to go.
The back of the seat will remain “rough” since it cannot be seen from looking into the ‘pit from outside.
Pilot is from: Real Model Pilots , he’s 3D printed and quite light.

The “Ford” is finished, and aside from securing the RX and ECU batteries and associated wires is CG’d and ready to go.
Dry weight 16.4lbs (7.43kg) with full UAT and CG spot on at 8.75” back. Wren SuperSort test runs and taxi tests upcoming.
Pilot looks to be, despite his fine Martin-Baker ejection seat, scared shxtless.......
Expect maiden in Mesa, AZ a couple of days before the Arizona Jet Rally in November.

Added:
The GJC ARF did not come with a tailhook, and the real Skyray had an extendable tail bumper wheel, so these were added. Though only fixed in place the bumper wheel is functional to keep the external tanks from dragging.

I would avoid crosswinds with this model, its very easy to flip over on its back. You may want to shorten the external tank pylons about a 1/2 inch, the tanks will get pretty scraped up. Good luck with the maiden.

Hello Rob,
Thanks for the heads up about crosswind; I will pick a nice wind down the runway day to maiden anyway. My long gone JHH A-7 was squirrely in a crosswind as well......
The tanks: I did not shorten the pylons as mentioned farther back in this thread, however I have applied some “scuff tape” like the car guys use so the tanks might not get roughed up. We shall see. I don’t fly off grass so the tanks dragging is not an issue.
thanks again,
Mike

I spoke to Mike a few days ago he said he would check in to it, would not know until December when they do inventory if they had any parts for this jet. If not I will just put some other strut in. But I figured I would ask around.
