Al's Hobbies Mach 1 Jet
Well its been a long time coming but we finally managed to a prototype of our new sport jet pulled from the final plug/ mould set up this weekend.
The model has been named Mach 1 and is designed to be a perfect first/second jet for those wanting their jet to be a little more scale like, but to not suffer the compromise in flying qualities that scale models ( Especially smaller ones ) Often have.
It has been designed around a P-60/ Wren 54/ P-70 size of turbine. The retracts are the same pro lynx/ jet 1A trailing link set up as the Boomerang Intro. In fact the idea was that someone who has owned/ flown a intro and wants to move onto something a little more sleek can retro fit their equipment into a Mach 1 with ease.
I first flew the original design 4 years ago to the day ( Last weekend ) and since then a number of changes to the design have made it into a stunning little jet. It flys so well, just like your favorite easy sport jet, yet still retains a scale type appearance in the sky. No exact measurements have been made yet but speed range is estimated from 175 mph right down to 30 mph. With a P-60 it had a fair turn of speed, great verticals yet still sows down to a crawl for landings with no sign of a wing drop.
Best of all.. its pure! From the start I wanted a model that would track and aero like a pure F3a type model. I have no mixing on this one, and in rolls and knife edge there is almost no coupling.
Apart from nor being sure about the canopy shape, I am now ready to send the plugs off to start production. I hope you guys like it?
Regards Al

As you said at Bickley, it would be nice to have a removable tailplane and fin/rudder just for storage and transport, but the extra weight may make this difficult.
The overal shape puts me in mind of the X1 just need to adjust the canopy profile a bit.

Hi Mike
We will look into a removable tail. Right now the fin is removable and the entire back end of the fuselage is removable with 4 screws but yes I agree it would be much easier to transport if the stabs were removable.
Looking at the outlines all morning I have decided that the canopy will be lowered and narrowed in profile.

All sounds very exciting, I was looking for my next jet and after seeing it at Bickley I think I am smitten, I am sure you will keep us all informed of its progress.

Mike, It would be an honor to have you as customer 0001 Jim. I am hoping to have an all composite version painted ( We will also offer unpainted/ primer only) For around the £*** mark with a fuel tank. Gear package should be around £*** and if course combos packages available. Just remembered that I think we are not supposed to post pricing. Email me for more details.

You can be customer 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 But you do realize that its for small turbines? The top hatch has been made deliberately so that only a P-70 size turbine or smaller will fit!
But dont worry if all goes well there will be a larger P-80- P120 size Mach 2 or as it has already been nicknamed "Big Mach" on the horizon.
Timing wise..... Now thats a real how long is a piece of string question.. I really have no idea as this is my first venture into the OEM Manufacturing process of this hobby. But rest assured I am employing the services of one of the best ARF manufacturers out there right now.
Mark, I sure we will talk via email about something or another in the near future so I will mention pricing then.
Oh and if anyone has any ideas on colour schemes please feel free to input. I have a few planned already but really want to have 4 different schemes ( 2 sport and 2 scale )

On the scheme front, can we please, please, please have a British version, something with the Union Flag or George Cross showing through a ripped panel or some such it would make a welcome change from the Stars and Stripes you will have to do.

Thanks Peter.
I don't know what turbine Ali had in it at Bickley over the week end, but that was off grass and managed without any problem, admittedly there is grass and pasture, Bickley is one of the best grass surfaces you could fly off, now my pasture field that I fly off does some horrible things to UC's and the sheep poo is better than Epoxy resin, well I can't get it off without extreme difficulty.
