Chris's Nano Build UPDATE First Flights
I decided I should have a rain shower jet.
Any flying field, anytime. Quick to assemble, quick to disassemble, sporty, but docile. Good for checking the cloud ceilings. In and out of the trailer in minutes.
I missed my original kit built Baby Boomerang. (Battery Brown out crunched it at Mississippi in 2007).
Called Patricia (she's awesome) Wednesday, it arrived Today. 3 days TX to KY, can't beat that.

Boomers are great. Lost my baby boomer to a mid air with a prop job 3 years ago. just replaced it with the sprint. Sprint is unpacked but not started yet do to several other builds.

Here's fuselage shots out of the box. Traditional Boomer simplicity. I noted that my original pilot, Leftennant Nigel Bendmetal doesn't fit. The other pilot I had available looks more like Hassan Chop and doesn't uh...look right in this jet. Search continues. In case it isn't obvious, this is the military version Nano.

The wing shots show the tops with orange and the undersides with blue.
I thought the Nano military was grey like the Elan, but I was happy to see it is actually silver like the Sprint. I would have been happy with either though.

Hi Chris
I think it's a great kit too, very complete with excellent fit and finish. I got mine on Thursday from Ali, and have just installed Springair 102's in it this evening.
The centre-section isn't glued on yet but the flap is hinged and the servo installed. I found the supplied CA hinges to be very stiff. When my JR 4131 servo buzzed even with the flaps retracted I replaced it with a JR 8411 digital, and that buzzed too. So I cut the hinges out and replaced them with pinned hinges. The 4131 is now back in and now there's no more buzzing.

Hi Chris
Thinking about those flap hinges, here's what I'd do if building a second Nano. Fold the hinges across a diameter to introduce a "set". Insert and glue the hinges so that they hold the flap in the "up" position. The rear fuselage and centre-section training edge both act as an up-stop, and this combined with the pre-loaded hinge will off-load the servo at rest on the ground resulting in no buzz.
Maybe the buzz isn't really a problem anyway. It did sound loud in my small work room. Getting rid of the buzz will save me having to field comments at the flying field about buzzing servos when onlookers should be marvelling at my new (and first) turbine jet!

I have a variety of JR's that buzz, which I find very irritating. My Futabas do not buzz 1/10th as much...I wish I were smart enough to know why ! Would anyone like to enlighten me?
Guys, I'm LOVING the looks of the Nano. Sure makes me wish my hangar were not already full ;-(

RE: Chris's Nano Build UPDATE First Flights
If we are talking about Digital srevo's the buzz is the motor looking for the center of travel, because of the way the Digitals work their holding power is due to the amplifier looking for constant feed back from the motor on the position of the output shaft, according to how wide the dead spot is on the servo, the worse or better the buzz will be, on the Hitec Digitals this band can be adjusted in the programming of the servo, but in all fairness don't worry about the buzz unless it is excessive, just move the servo a little with the Tx stick and see if it still buzz's if it does you possibly have a binding linkage, also make sure the buzz does not come back at the extream of travel, that also possibly means you have a binding surface, use the End Point adjustement in the Tx to get rid of it at extreams of travel, or do it the right way and adjust your linkages.

RE: Chris's Nano Build UPDATE First Flights
Chris,
Just for information, I have timed the 50 ounce Dubro from take off almost full to flame out empty and using a Wren Mw44 it was 12 minutes 40 seconds.
With a P60 it was just under 7 minutes 30 seconds.
That's both with mixed flying, from flat out to half throttle, not trying to stretch the time out.

Alan,
That's great info. I can't imagine needing more than 12 minutes!
With my 12 lb thrust T-500 I'm ok with about 6 minutes like my Flash. 8 would be ideal for a jet as fun as the Nano should be.
I'd use a Wren 44 if I had one.

Chris,
I guess this means you will be grounding the Falcon 120 wannabee jet?

RE: Chris's Nano Build UPDATE First Flights
Hello Chris,
I'm watching this build with interest, I've picked my Boomerang Nano up over the weekend I'm planning on starting the build pronto, but I'm deliberating on which servos to use at the moment. Have you decided which ones you are going to install?
Cheers
Andy
