Anton,

They look like good weights. The wings are 5lbs lighter than the FEJ A10. You never know you might just make it under 20kgs after all with a lightweight turbine.

Hi, schroedm

sorry, for the confused .,

i mean that i want to make the A-10 under 20kg (without the ordnance)., but i now saw the airframe almost 11kg (24lbs)., so, when we complete it , the A-10 dry weight should be 20.5 to 21.5kg (45-46lbs around).,

and i also interest to make the slat flaps with speed brake for A-10., this will add more weight for A-10.,

what's your suggest and opining??

Best regards

Anton

Anton,

From a UK point of view, we have a 20kg dry weight limit before we need to start involving the Civil Aviation Authority, Large Model Association, documentation, inspections and 12 flights with an inspector so <20kg will mean you would sell more as people prefer not to have this hassle.

<20kg will also allow WJM entry etc.

However, I think that to get the features/size you want on this A10 you will might be compromising the strength of the airframe by trying to keep the weight below 20kg. I think this will just have to be a model that people have to commit to and go through the CAA/LMA schemes (in the UK)

I THINK the limit is 25kg (wet?) in Europe so the same may apply there.

Besides, any 'Hog has to have the ordnance and then you're definately over 20kg!

My responses have not been that I don't think it should be over 20kg, I was more amazed that you'd be able to get it to <20kg. As you have now said, that does look unlikely.

Thanks,
Mark

Alex, surely the FEJ must have had the gear in for weight difference like that???

I agree with Mark best be over 20kg and have a sound structure than the opposite. I can never be bothered with the LMA thing so I always try and keep my own models under 20kg which is why I was keen on the prospect of this making it under the restriction.

PS, it will be interesting to know how Skymaster A10 gets rid of the 5 lbs. of nose wt. for CG on it"s first flight.

Pete,

The First flight was pre production and conventional moulding techniques with no vacuum bagging. So tail was heavy. 1st production models already saved weight in tail and the next production even more without comprimising strength...

I think a bare Hog (although not to some liking) may just be under 20kg with new generation 100 engines.... I am hoping and will keep you posted...

That's almost exactly what my Gen 3 MIBO wings weigh without the pylons. The pylons add about a pound to each wing and of course the weight of whatever ordnance you carry.

FYI, my fus is 33.5lbs with the UAT full and no fuel. Fuel adds about 11.5lbs. I'm probably at about 65lbs total at takeoff. With 2 ECU batteries and 2 rx batteries in the nose, I don't need any extra balance weight up front.

Hi Anton,
If you ever need any help on that test flying, feel free to ask. I have a little bit of A-10 stick time so may be able to scrape it round a circuit or two

Ok Anton.
Tell me when my A-10 is ready and I will come and collect it, and we can make the test flights and some demo flights if you like?
I think you already know which colour scheme I want

The FEJ"s does have a nice option to be able to pull the outer wing off so you can roll it in with the mains still intact. Unfortunately you have to deal with the extra weight in structure that comes along with it. I believe they have 2 wing versions, one that does not have this feature which is lighter. I was thinking about doing this with my A-10 kit but being in a smaller class and easier to transport it may be more work than i want to deal with. The FEJ airframe did seem a bit on the high side but definately dont want to compromise structure for weight savings on a bird this big.

Anton

Your airframe seems pretty accurate. The main thing i see that can be reworked are the engine nacelles. The diameter seems a bit small and they seem a bit to straight, like a tube. The inlets radius are too round. Alot of models have a hard time getting the nose accurate, particularly where the refueling door is, which is flat. Your A10 seems to have hit it accurately. The nose is the first thing i look at on any A-10 model, if you dont get the nose right, thats what makes or brakes it for me. Nice job on the painstaking task of the rivets and detail. You must have a ton of hours in that alone. Dont mean to sound harsh, i am just one of the biggest A-10 fanatics putting my 2 cents in. I still pick my A-10 kit apart on a daily basis. Overall nice job!

Very very nice! I am keeping an eye on this one as a near future project! and I LOVE the ARF PLUS option

Powerplant? 2 jetcats P80 or P120? prehaps P-100? probably P160 would be too much?

Congratulations!

I wouldnt say the nose is accurate. it seems a bit pointed and slightly too round on the sides of the nose, the engine pods need reshaping as well, but it is far better looking than the fej hawg in my opinion. just when it comes to profile, mibo will still have the edge. but they should after 4 generations of tweaking. maybe gen 5 will address the rivits finally. Ill post a couple pics later today to show the faceting im talking about on the sides of the nose.

John and Lowell from rcjets direct use to distribute my kit and john was wanting me to do a 3 piece wing on mine. They are also a distributor for FEJ and john brought this up to them when they were designing it. If i recall right, the 3 piece wing weighed somewhere around 7 lbs more because of the extra needed structure. Cant be for sure on that, but you can contact john or lowell at rcjetsdirect.com for some better insight on it.

Here is a pic that i had taken at hills AFB museum in salt lake city when i was working on a job over there a few years back. I used these for some of the reference on mine. The nose tip could be a bit more blunt with less roundness on the sides into the flat area on top going toward the tip. The flat refueling area also curves down into the tip. Alot of times you will see this area beat up on the real A10, i am guessing from some bad aiming when refueling in flight. Mibos newest generation shape is almost dead on, but whenever i see them in person, the fuse seems a bit on the wide side and the wheel nacelles have to sharp of contours. For the most part, alot of people can look past these small flaws and not notice or care about them compared to the real deal. Just a few pointers. All in all, i admire the hard work and attention to detail that has gone into the A-10. I have only dreamed of putting that much detail into mine, but now your making me itchy.

Im sorry, that was not my intent, Im like you in that the Hawg head really catches my attention if there is a shape problem, even minor. but its definitely a very impressive effort and you gotta give major points to Skymaster. In keeping things positive, it's obvious this project will steal many ham and cheese sandwiches from Mibo.
