Send your ecu in and have it modified for A123's.

you can just plug it in and go, but you need to set the cell count to 8 cell NiCd. there's absolutely no reason what so ever to have an A123 mod for LiPo use..............

You can run lipo's. Its volatge is very close to a 6 cell NIMH or NICD. You don't need to send your ECU in for an upgrade to run lipo's but if you do want to run A123's, you will need the upgrade.

Hold down the "Limits" key

Press the "+" key

This should bring up a set of hiden menus.

Use the "+" key to cycle through the menus

to change battery cell count, cycle till you see the NiCad cell count.

HI KC36330, Have tried limits menu nothing relating to cell count there, also tried holding limits depressed whilst powering up this takes me into FLASHMODE, I am sure its in there somewhere. My old sophia jettronics ecu had this facility.

i don't have a V5 ECU on hand anymore but I'm pretty sure the holding of 'Limits' and pressing '+' is what brought up the menu, you do this with power on, not during power up.

the menu has u-accelr1 u-accelr2 and cell count

Bottom line is you can run a 2 cell lipo and you do not need to change anything.

The cell count you are changing only effects the low battery warning system. If this is disabled (and it is by default) then you will not need it. In my experience the voltage of a 2 cell lipo is close to the stock nicad battery limit for a version 5.

So can I use the latest V6 ECU as supplied with my new 160SX with A123s ?

JetCat USA recommended and supplied such packs about a year ago and I had my 160 SE ECUs modded. Is this now done as standard in view if the increasing use of A123s?

Regards,

David Gladwin.

Hello,

IF the ECU was modified in the USA, it will be marked "A123". No it is not standard, the customer must request the modification.

I have no knowledge what Germany is doing. I mist be able to find out in a few days. But I do know what USA is doing and they are marked A123.

Hope that helps,

David,

The ECUs modified for A123 by JetCat Germany are marked with 12V and the battery plug (in the ECU) is RED.

No your ECU will not blow up. I've done it, a fully charged 2s pack did not blow up my non-changed ECU.

I have changed the parameter since then. The batter icon will always look full on the GSU this way, just remember to check your battery.

I think that the US mods are to put a heat sink on one of the internal FETS, that is certainly what it looks like on the one I bought for my P80 from them, the German modifications are a change to the internal PC board and as Per said the unit comes marked 12V and the battery socket on the ECU is Red this is on my modified P120SX so I am expesing an opinion on what I have in my hands, it may be different or have changed since.
