As promised here are a few shots of the main gear mechanisms. These pictures are from the original 111E prototype early this year and show a pneumatic system. The air rams have been replaced with a geared motor system. There is also one shot of the geared wing sweep motor. The main gear attachment former in the photo was ply for fitting purposes and has been changed to prepreg carbon/nomex to reduce weight

Mike, I'm interested in the engine & pipe layout & any yaw problems from the offset thrust line?
I'm not a fan of bi pipes.
I love the weathering in the wheel bay, looks like something from a Star Wars special effects room! John.

Hi John,
The engine is slightly off center and angled to address the thrust tube, the tube is offset by about 4 degrees, canted outward. There is no noticeable yaw problem with this setup. Please bear in mind that this airplane has quite close spaced exhausts, so the initial effect is not that great even without compensation. I use a gyro on the rudder which may be helping as well.

Hi Ian,
Many Thanks. The wall art is the full size side view of my A-6 plug, it replaced the previous wall art of the 111 side view. It makes it easier to get upset when you finish a plug and then see a difference with the full size 3 view (lol).

Hi Paul,
We completed flight testing on this and a practice version last month, then I completed the finishing on the competition version. Hopefully nothing will have changed, other than the need to fix scratches etc. on future flights.

This is the tail skid mechanism for the FB-111. It is built like a small retract. The frame is molded carbon. Actuation is with a Firgelli L12, 2 inch linear servo, the skid plate is titanium which is attached to small oleo for shock absorption.
