L 29 Delfin Race Jet

1 Attachment(s)
Hello all Racers,

we are building the first Race Jet, an L29 Delfin. Size will be arround 90/90 inch for 10-20 Kilo (20-40 Pound) of thrust. We did a lot of work on the Prototype and Molds and first planes for the big Fair in March will be on the way to Germany. I spend 8 Weeks in China to built the Plane and now we get the first 5 Prototypes for flying.

Here some Pictures for you.....

The L29 will be not an very fast plane. This is in Original an Trainer, we used an 18% Airfoil down to 15 and 12 on the Tipp Ripp So this will be a very slow to fly plane with 4 Flaps and 2 Speed Brakes and also very good for Aerobathic and Team Flight.... Stay tuned for first Flight Videos and Fotos in Dezember....

Fantastic! Please put me on the list for one as soon as they are available. I have a full scale one here in the US and would love to build a copy of it! It should make a great scale trainer, with, like you said, very forgiving characteristics.

Hello Guys,

let me ask you something....

is there a Thrust/weight limit??? So one guy told me it will be not allowed put an 20 Kilo Thrust (40 Pound)... in an Jet with about 15 kilo (30 pound) is that true???

Please tell me that.... Thank you. Also I am interested are you have a weight limit in US? we have 25 Kilo (50 pound) over that you have to make a steering license and get an Tag from Airclub after Proven....

Thanks a lot for answeres

I am sure one of the U.S guys will be along with the exact details of their restriction, but I see no reason why this model should have any trouble conforming to the U.S Turbine rulings.
I have one of these jets coming for my own personal demo model. I am not sure what it is that draws me to this jet, but it is always one that I have looked at as a full size and thought it would make a good model.
One of the aspects of getting a new model/ jet that I have always liked is finding, or choosing a new colour scheme. I start with scale schemes ( As they are easier to find and there is no point re inventing the wheel ) But more often than not I cant find anything on a full size that floats my boat. Some jets such as Grumman Panthers for example. Are seriously limited as to choice when it comes to scale colours applied to the full size, and unless you like blue or silver, you are pretty stuck really.
Well, in all my years doing this, and in all the airframes that I have planed colours for. I have never, ever seen so much variety and choice with a full size aircraft as there is with the Delfin. My goodness! Its as if this is a full size aircraft that the owners have totally free licence to do with as they please when it comes to colour schemes. They range from the basic colours that could easily be applied on top of a silver gel coat, to military camos of all different shades.
Then we move onto the racing schemes and custom colours.. I have even seen one done in Miss America colours. The choice is almost endless, and for once I find myself in the rare situation of having too many scale schemes to choose from ( Guess I will have to get more than one L-29 then) I will post some pics, but my internet link is kindda scetchy at the moment. I will also keep you updated when my kit arrives.
Regards Al

A few of my favourites so far.

It depends on local regulations.

Here in France we have two categories of models :

- cat A : less than 25kg (all fueled) or less than 1.3 thrust/weight ratio
- cat B : more than 25kg or more than 1.3 ratio.

For Cat A you are free (like all other RC planes), for Cat B you need an official inspection and flight demo of the model to make it approved.

Hope this help.

Hello All Jet Racers,

yes, the Paintings are all very impressive.... the L29 was built over 13.000 times and a lot of them are still flying very well.

So we decidet paint em neutral in Silvergrey so all people make the paint emselve. But also we can offer an Airbrush goes to the Kits. For this size the one on the Pic below will cost about 800 Euro with clearcoat.............. Airbrush by my artist....

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet

@nhalyn, thank you for you explaning,

so an jet wich is dry 13 Kg you can put Trust in from 16,9 Kilo, is that about right?

Ore is it the Wet weight..... so it would be 16,5 Kg weight and 21,45 Kilo Thrust.....???

So wich is count the dry ore the fillet (wet) weight.... in Germany we have a Jet Class 13,5 Kilo, this is dry weight without any liquid. So some people are very close to 13,5 the put no lead in for get the rigt cg, tey put an ballast Tank in it and fill up before flight demo and empty it after flight............ Tricky isnt it???

Best Regards

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet

In the Uk we have a 20 KG limit dry. No thrust limit.. We leave it to common sense to prevail ;)
Ok I will leave the red scheme. ;)

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet

You're right, it need more explanations. [sm=49_49.gif]

In facts, weight is alway mesured in the worst conditions !

Not to be in cat B, you need to be below 25kg take-off weight, so weight is mesured full loaded, aka full fluids in.

For the thrust/weight ratio, the worst case is on landing when tank is empty, so the ratio is calculated full unloaded. So a 10kg dry weight plane should have a maximum rated 13kg turbine to respect the 1.3 ratio.. The same plane with 4 liters of kero inside on take-off will be Ã* 1/1 ratio.

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet

@Nhalin,

well Thank you for this exact explain....

So I feel good about useing a IQ Hammer 160+ Engine on an 13 kilo Dry and 16 Kilo Wet Jet, so ratio will be 1:1 wet and not over 1,3 empty....... hope it will never be dry before landing.........

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet

Those are french rules. They apply to french licenced pilots for french meeting. Don't know how it is in germany.

A stranger pilot comming in France with a model with more than 1.3 ratio should be considered as a category B model, but, as said Ali, not in UK...

You really should have a inquiry to your local federation or jet association around you. It may change from country to country. For exemple weight limit is 25kg in France but 20kg in UK and by memory 20kg in Germany.

I know that there is positive action to steamline an European rule about limitations for our big RC model. There was a big responsible meeting during last Jet Power to speack of that. Don't know what have going on by now.

I hope they will agree to disagree on the weight limits!!!:D:D:D

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet

hello all Racers,

well in Germany we have only a limit for the weight.....

So 25 Kilo is for all Models, Acro, Prop and jet and also Helicopter, till 25 kilo it is an Modelplane............

Over 25 up to 150 kg is like the same as an ultralight........... you need get it proved by an Aircraft Ingenieur and make a small Steering license as an Pilot, thats it.

We have no regulaton on power ore thrust.

if id would work you can put in an 10 Kilo Plane an 30 Kilo Thrust it is allowed..... only we have an speed limit for visibil Flight in an 3000 foot range from 250 Knots wich is 462 Km/h ore 288 mph..........

So here it is easy........... not when you are over 25........ than it could get tricky...

Hello all Racers,

we made an L29 with an 17 Kg (34 Pound) thrust in the officiall colors from the Airrace21 Jet-Race Team, Raju Grace Mann and Dean Barker from the Team are very impressed about the work and Flight from that Modelplane.

See the Flight from that L29 here:

RE: L 29 Delfin Race Jet

I have received the L-29 and start to build, overall impression is good, the plane is build extremely solid, lost of carbon in the wing and fuselage, feels little heavy, I guess that I will have it around 20kg ready to fly. I was impressed by some of the solutions in the plane, It´s evident that the designer have done this for a while.

The fuel tank is cool , with centered pickup it will be really good tank. I have mounted all the servos, landing gear and pos.light in the wings so far , I´m using original mechanics with modified legs for the big Tomahawk Futura with 120mm wheel and brakes from tomahawk, and Jet-A1 nose leg. will be back with pictures.

I will use the Hawk 190R turbine so I will have around 20 min flying time :o)).

that all for now.
