RE: BVM Paint Codes?????
KFX450,
BVM, uses all of the PPG DCU paints so that they don't have to use any clear. It makes life alot easier to make repairs to the plane if you ever have to repair anything. The paint is expensive but is very durable and easy to apply. I just went and bought a quart of white and that alone was $80.00 bucks. I would just order a bottle of each and then spay out a sample of it and take it to your local automotive paint store and see how much they would charge to mix up a pint of each color. Don't forget you will also have to buy the hardener for the paint to do that. |

KX
If you already have the plane, take a wing or someother part to a PPG dealer, get them to scan each color and they can get the formula from that, then they can mix the paint. |

RE: BVM Paint Codes?????
Usually a PPG dealer will color match in quantities of a quarter or more (unfortunately).
You also may want to try PPG Omni single stage. It is pretty glossy and very easy to use. You can always buff it out if you want more shine. Hint: radio south r/c custom matches your colors in very small quantities. I always buy from them., specially clears (in order not to waste, which I always do when I buy full quarts!) |

RE: BVM Paint Codes?????
I have had good luck matching with the one oz BVM paints. You can adjust the color minimally by thinning. If you have the room in the area you need to work on shoot your airbrush toward the good area, not away from it. This is usually not a problem with wingtips. Also if you can use existing demarcations such as a hinge line or panel line. Let it cure well then wet color sand with 800->1200->1500->2000 and then rub out and buff. If your lucky it will be almost unnoticable. Scotty

RE: BVM Paint Codes?????
Eric,
There is an autobody shop down in Salem that will scan the aircraft color and then mix the color using their computer control paint mixer and the put it in a spray can for you. It is $25 a can but Brian got a perfect match for his F-15 wing repair. Contact Brian for the name of the place. Bob |
