RE: Elan CG ???

Billy, if it balances on the main gear full uat, empty main tank it will be perfect.

Sitting on the ground, raise the nose a little and it should sit on the tail and stay there.

It is exactly what you don't need! Alan suggests an ultra safe cg for beginners, the cg we recommended is what you need. I really don't know why we bother to try and help sometimes.

Because I am setting it up for a beginner..........Now don't you feel dumb! You really think I give a ***** where the CG is on an Elan if it were for myself. I'd fly it with a brick glued to the nose.

Thanks anyway,
Billy

Billy,

When I set up Ray's, the stock cg was too nose heavy. It took 1/4" or up trim and it was a pain to land. I ended up with 6 oz of lead on the tail and it is much better for landing.

BaldEagel

What quist said, I ended up with my ECU battery (3S A123) in between the wheel wells and the two Rx batteries (2S A123) just in front of that and no UAT to get the C of G where I wanted it, the manual recommended C of G is over the top nose heavy, makes it difficult to flair the landing.

the elan was my first jet. and I listened to the guys and set it up where it would just barely sit on the tail when the tank was 1/4 full. It turned out to be perfect. In 150 flights I never changed it. I flew another one that was more nose heavy and it was harder to land.. Mine balanced right at the front cutout for the gear.

Its easier to add a few ounces in the nose and take it out than the opposite.

good luck, great bird..
