Smoke System Setup in C-ARF FLASH

HOWDIE JET JOCKS,

Got a smoke system setup in My Flash and since there is no access to plumbing and nozzle (under wings) I am not able to put a shutoff valve inline unless I route the output line all the way to front and back in order to stop leaking when I fill the tanks. Any Ideas? thanks

the setup is:
two 18 oz round tanks setup in series in fuse above the wing near the turbine. Sullivan pump above the turbine with crap trap on input and one check valve on the output.

ALso need some radio setup ideas on JR 12X. main switch and mix ideas to throttle, other switches, etc...?

thanks
jason

put a festo check valve on the line feeding the stick, it'll keep it from dripping/siphoning with the tanks higher then the stick. i use the mix -> Throttle to activate, i used the right eyebrow once but it hurts your finger on long smokes.

use a 3rd line into the main tank to fill, that will keep it from pushing out the nozzle.

Dougie/jim,
thats where I have it now.. left slideer.. but I was thinkin of mixing it with throttle halft to full. but I definitely setup for low to high.. are you guys running your pumps on 6 volts?
DD,
Hows plumbing set up in your flash? your tanks in front? how does it not leak?

KC/DDL,
check valve will not stop it from dripping. works the other way. also I have set it with third fill line, however, apparantly the resistance of the two tanks through the vent is higher than the pump to nozzle, therefore it drips when I am filling the tanks. Thats what I am concerned about.

I can only think of two options bad options:
1) route the outlet to front and put a valve there and back to nozzle, this will create major delay in the smoke on off.
2) Put an orifice i the outlet to increase the pressure to above the pressure required for filling the tank. in that case i think the pump is going to work hard and may not have enough output.

unless, somebody has a better idea. I also dont want to try any facny ideas like remote valve....

I have my pump on 7.4v connected to 42oz in a rookie operated off a switch that i can adjust to the right flow with a home made injector.

a Festo check valve will keep it from dripping, it is sealed until pressure from the pump being on pushes it open.

My smoke is activated by the left eyebrow switch on the 12X. There is an option on the 12X to set the eyebrow switches to either "momentary or on", set it on then you don't have to hold it for the smoke.

Here is what I did on mine.
I have Tams Smoke System.
My fill Line is T'd.. 1 line to the Tanks and the other to the in on the pump...The out of the pump goes to one side of the shut off, then the other side of the shut off to the nozzles. When I fill I keep the shut off closed and nothing leaks. After engine has started I open my smoke shut off.
I have mine on a switch and the throttle controls the amount of smoke.
Here are the directions from the Tams Sytem

For the guys using two tanks, are you running them in series or parallel?

KC,

Just ordered a couple of check valves at .5 to 1 psi cracking pressure. I tried to find out how much pressure can sullivan pump can put out but no answer from sullivan yet. anybody knows? anyway as long as I am not pushing more than 1 psi when I am filling and the pump can overcome 1 psi, KC 's suggestion should work.

I will mount this as soon as I get it and will report back the results.

As for radio, I think I will try the right side eybrow (Aux Trim) as a on/off switch, start with right side slider to determine at what trimmer setting flow rate is adequate. if I can getaway with single setting, then I will set ATV to max at flow rate and set Trimmer as switch.
If I need to proportionate, then Trimmer as on/off switch and Throttle curve mix to aux channel to start pumping with half throttle and max at full, possibly with a gear switch up condition as well.

will report back when I am done.

thanks

No No, you always want to be able to smoke up the pits :) and/or on the take off roll. popping a flame thrower during the spool up really gets everyone's attention

You are losing WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy too much sleep over this... Left slider, finger mixing, 40oz, 7.4v 5200 Fromeco pack, on/off valve and off you go!!!

smoke oil is an incompressible fluid...it does not matter (with in reason) how far away the pump is...when you turn it off, smoke stops; turn it on, and smoke starts..... (think about the distance between your fuel pump and your turbine...betcha it works just fine...)

AIGHT Gents,

Tried the check valve idea tonight. I had ordered two different check valves with .5 and 1 psi cracking pressure. The check valves were connected right before the nozzle. Unfortunately neither worked. It leaked since a minimal flow rate can open up the valve easily. SO..

Went the Dougy and the rest of gangs route. Just routed the output to front and a ball valve and back to nozzle. works like a charm.
thanks for the feedback

as for the radio,

I ll try to set the rate first and then maybe switch mix to throttle or just slider. BTW.. the sullivan pump runs way too fast on 3S lipo. so I ordered 2S 1250 mah which should have good proportional range.

anybody has ever measured the optimum smoke oil output flowrate for turbine... last week I did get a pop and some flames when I tried it on IDLE...lol
