Rossi Vs. O.S. ?
 

I've have Byron's F-16 and Mig 15 and they were both purchased with used engines. I want to start from fresh with new engines in both and I'm not sure which way to go. My choices are the Rossi 1.05 and the O.S. .91. Will anyone with any experience let me know what their opinion is concerning this decision. I understand that Rossi's can be tempermental but I don't know if this is true. Is there that much of a benefit of one engine over the other? I just want to keep things fairly simple and do not wish to retune an engine several times a day to get it to run consistently. I'd like to go with the Rossi but if anyone feels its a bad move PLEASE let me know.

I used to have a Rossi .90 and I never could get it to run very reliably. From what I have been told in the past, they run a little cooler with less oil than normal DF fuel and that some people use 4 stroke fuel in them.
I was new at df at the time and it was more of a headache than it was fun so I ended up selling it. Come to find out a couple years later that the Rossi's shortcoming is in the carburetor and if you put the OS carb on it the engine is a real powerhouse developing more power than the OS .91. :rolleyes: Kinda wish I had a kept it now!:)

I'm only going by what I experienced and what I have been told in the past but I'm sure there are some Rossi experts out there that can shed some light on this topic.
Bythe way, what engines are in the two planes that you bought?

I have ran both and have had great luck with both. I have a Byron F-16 with the Rossi 105 setup and Hurricane fan. I just got it going so I will let you know how it turns out. When I ran the engine, it ran great. I don't know much about the 105, but can tell you that this is a very good engine. I will fly it this weekend and will post results.

There is a reason that the OS91 is THE most popular ducted fan engine in use out there today-----ease of use and reliability.

Yes , the Rossi's can be real powerhouses--if you like to tinker and fiddle around all the time..........my opinion is that there isn't enough difference in the power output to bother with the headache of trying to get the Rossi to run --and the expense of putting an OS carb on? Guess I just don't like to fiddle as much as I used to.....OS for me..

God, don't get a Rossi. The OS 91 is the ONLY choice. I don't know of ANYONE who has had success with the 105, and every other rossi I have ever owned has been a headache.

have both os 91 and older rossi.81 on byron fan. the rossi runs with no tinkering, its on an enforcer and fly it 3-4 times each day it has gone out. now in th 40+ flights. the os in a dynmx set up. I would think it probibly comes from the availabilty of os and its parts. but even I would lean towards os for those reasons when i buy new and dont have to squeez the most out of a fan( heavy jet)

I have a Byron F16 with a Rossi 81. I have not been able to fly it yet because the engine will load up and die! I have ran Rossi for many years ( since 1980) in boats using as much as 70% Nitro and they have been great engines! The OS has a much better carb ( for Idel speeeds!). The rossi's carb is large for more power which hurts its low speed some. I would get the OS!
