Servos for the Roo
 

After reading all the msgs on the roo building 101 I still have a few questions. One of them is abt servo choices. I plan to use the following:

Elevons: JR DS8411 (1 each elevon)
Rudders: Futaba 9202 (1 each rudder, since i already have them)
Steering & Speedbrake: JR DS8231 (1 each)
Rest all std servos with 42oz torque.

Hope I am moving in the right direction. I can change whatever necessary here as the servos have still not been ordered. I dont even have to use the futaba 9202 on the rudders. Dont want to spend money unnecessarily but I DONT want to risk the plane for lack of good servos. I will use whatever each surface deserves.

Should I split the elevons and use 2 servos per wing? In that case I can use smaller servos rather than the giant 8411's.

The servo selection you have chosen is just fine! No problems there. As for running single or dual elevon servos, that is a choice you will have to make. It is not necessasary as the 8411 is more than enough for the flight loads. Guys can argue the redundancy thing but my opinion is it's just more equipment with more chance of failure. Been flying with single 8411's without a hitch.
Just make sure your nose gear linkage is SOLID, there is a bit of torque on that linkage.

Todd, do you mean the connection between the servo arm and the steering arm should be a fat rod with no flex!!! am i right?

Yes, exactly! See my webpage by clicking www below if you have any questions on the install. BTW, I used hanger 9 (horizon) titanium linkage rods for nose gear an speed break for rigidity, bit over-kill but solid linkage.

Yes, I certainly did and have spoken to Anurag in the past which is why I suggested he research his area for an item sutible for his purpose. I believe Anurags' reason for asking if the item was available from other places is because it is difficult for him to order from the states!

Actually its very very hard to order from the US as shipping and customs duty make the merchandise prohibitively expensive. I still have to buy 99% of RC stuff from abroad and usually stock myself up for emergencies.

Todd: I wont find titanium linkages or carbon fibre linkages in a retail store in India...no way!! I will probably end up using a steel rod or something. Else order it from Horizon. What I asked was if there were other stores on the web other than Horizon that can supply with such goods.
