RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-
Question for you guys that are familar with Vampires, where is the landing light(s) on a Vampire? Putting lights in mine and can''t find a picture of a full scale showing a landing light.
Note, the tip lenses are not colored, just painted from the inside, removed paint with rubbing alcohol so I have clear lenses. Jim |

Jim
Didn't think it had one! Dave |
RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-
Well that just stinks, guess Vampires don't fly at night.

RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-
In 1944 they were hiding ;)
Had my ref book out and can't find any ref, but there are plenty of authorities who may know better!! Dave |

RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-
Hi Jim
The Landing light on my Vampire T11 is on the underside of the port wing and sits flush with the underside and then rotates down into the airflow when needed...I assume the single seater was the same but am not 100% on that I'll check my reference material...hope this is of help Regards Mark |
RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-
Mark,
Found some nice underside photos of the T11, that sure is mounted well outboard on the wing. Thanks for the heads up, though I still haven't found one on Vampire yet but there is an inspection panel located right in the same place on the 3-views I have of an F.B.9 Jim |

work progress
1- i changed the 2 original air valves due air lack with new Airpower double output valve 2- i changed the nose door cylinder with 19mm travel with a new one with 25mm travel due too close distance between wheel and panel during retraction 3- finally i fit the rx and accesories |

It is official. . .the Der Jet Models Vampire build manual is finished. All interested customers as well as current builders may email me at for your copy.
Color photographs, well written and includes the most recent flight data collected after in excess of 15 flights. Pilots, the work has been done for you. No mysteries during the maiden flight if you follow all recommendations contained in the manual Der Jet Models wishes to thank Mr. Jim Hiller for an outstanding job creating a manual which flows very nicely with the build process. Jims years of designing, building and test flying are imbedded in this manual. Sincerely, Eric Clapp Der Jet USA www.jetcentral.com |
As a Swiss I really like this scheme. However, I do not understand, why so many people have troubles to find the right size of the white cross in our national emblem... :( Cf. http://www.flugzeugbilder.de/show.php?id=1011776
Thank you for your meticulous reminding of the right size of the white cross in Swiss emblem. We are going to do it right size. Jack, director of DerJet Model |

RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-
Can anyone advise which brand of pilot Jim has in his model please?
Looks spot-on Gregg |
RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-
Picked up my pilot off ebay, its an 1/6 Elite Force WWII RAF Flight Lieutenant Donald Moore, also known as Blue Box Toys. They also had a WWII RAF pilot in blue uniform that would look good in a Vampire. Only problem with my pilot is he has short pants so he's showing off his knobby knees. Found Elite Force pilots on both ebay and Amazon.com, just had to do some looking to find them as I don't believe either is still in production. Have some nice options in the box with these pilots to make them look right.

The Vampire is 1/5th Scale. I have an Axel pilot from Germany...very expensive, but the right size for this aeroplane, he needs a new helmet (unless he's flying this in the late 60's;) )

Finally got started on Eric Clapp's Vampire.
This is the all red one I posted photos of a while back. This Vampire flew with the Royal Australian Air Force. This was a special scheme worn by Squadron Leader C.F. Favish's Vampire FB.31 of 25 Squadron in the late 1950s. Australian Vampires were fitted with auxiliary "Elephant Ear" intakes on the lower fuselage. This is what we started on today. Also Eric did all teh little stuff on the gear to get them ready to install. Below are a few photos of the days work. Also Eric says the front wind screen was blue tinted so I made him one blue tinted. |

Slowly getting back to the Vampire after some family stuff.
Decided to put the main airtanks in the sub wing LE,, behind the inlets. (they are light so I want to space further forward for anything heavy) I'm using a UP3 valve and have an MAP hopper as shown. Wooden plate on top of tanks will take turbine valves, pump etc. Powerbox Evolution and Rx will be on the right hand side of this area Dw |
