The reason JetCat's are boring
1 Attachment(s)
The delivery of my P20 from Ali was next day within the time hour specified, Put the P20 on a rig, attached the Rx, Learn RC came up on the GSU, did what I was instructed by the GSU, fueled up throttled up and it started, what impressed my the most was the spool up time, from 85,000 to 245,000 took about 3.5secs, not scientific, just a count on my watch.

Kero start as well... I know what you mean about the boring thing though. I almost miss the days of failed starts, flames chucking out the pipe and fire extinguishers at the ready.
Nice one Mike! Have fun with it. Regards Al |
RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
How can it be boring with that oil rig sticking out the side of the can ! :D

RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
Ali
Its just so easy to change to Kero start, push two buttons whilst powering up the Rx and that's it done, changed from Gas to Kero. Can't wait to get the Habu, but I suppose I will have to, meanwhile I will have to look at what I have alredy that I can put it in, I think the Spear is to small, have to search through the loft. What's the spec on the ECU LiPO, how many mAh consumed on a start ?
Have you asked Jetcat about A123 ECU modification yet ? (although size of a 3S A123 would be a problem in a small airframe) |

RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
It would be good to know from JetCat if a three cell A123 could be used with the P20?

Your right.... the autostart ECUed turbine has
made it possible for ......... "Anyone"....... to be able to start a turbine. Not that long ago in order to be a jet pilot you had to have..... SKILLS. Skills beyound that of mortal modelers, the capability to handle fuel, air, propane, and a fire bottle....all at once, true multi-tasking. It was a job for the young, foolish, pilots we once were. Now we pretty much.......... push the button and watch what used to be money .....traded in for fuel.... burn. |

RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
With Kero start the Gas bottle is empty thank G*d, but the experience of starting on Kero is without doubt a glass 9/10ths full, will never go back to Gas start.

RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
I filled up my kero glass early this year..... no worries... love the kero starts too,
I'm looking forward to NOT dragging a propane bottle to the field.. someday. |
RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
Hi Mike, I am with you on the Gas start!
Direct from JetCat the P20SE- ECU is no problem, but the P20SE- fuel pump is only for max. 10V, not more!! You can don’t use 3 cells A123, 2 cells A123 is to low. You can use only 2s- Lipo battery. Regards Al |
RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
Ali
I rearly want to get rid of LiPo's from my on board equipment and have lots of A123's to use, both 2300Mah and 1100Mah, have you any idea what sort of shunt I need to put in the supply line to the pump to regulate the voltage down to 6 volts? I am sure I am not alone in this. Mike |
RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
Couldn't you just use a voltage regulator inline with the pump Mike? Plenty of them around that can do these numbers.

RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
ORIGINAL: i3dm A123 three cell pack is 9.9V nominal. There are four wires into the pump which one's do I regulate? I suppose I will have to put a volt meter on them to find out, just seems a shame that JetCat did not realise that a lot of people use A123's. Mike |
RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
I don't understand why you would need to regulate the pump voltage, that's what the ecu does. The pump voltage is never going to get anywhere near 9v.
m |
RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
I think its because maximum volts to the pump at full throttle is the ECU battery voltage.
Mike |
RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
No it's not. If the pump receives more tha 4 volts I would be very surprised.
m |
RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
On second thoughts the Pump voltage is possible controled in the same manner as an ESC controls an electric motor in which case it sees the ECU voltage the whole time and is switched on and off to control the speed of the pump, this is suposition on my part and I am only quoting the information I have received. i.e. the pump can not take over 10 volts.

RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
a three cell A123 pack will only stay above 10V for a short period of time, and then go down to constant nominal 9.9V anyways.

RE: The reason JetCat's are boring
Not so Mike, check the voltages on your existing Jetcat, U excl 1 is 0.25v and the max pump volt is usually 3.5v ish. don't forget, it is not a brushless motor.
