NMH batts.
Looking at putting in my euro sport two nickle metal batteries 6V. I would be putting in the JR R922 nine channel reciever. No regulator. Is this a option for my jet? Ive always used lithium ion bats. with powerbox on my other jets. Thanks Bill

Personally i run a pair of 2 cell A123 batteries through a spektrum AR9100 Rx w/o any regulators. I top them off every other flight and have averaged about 250mah per flight. I shunned off Nimh's an Nicd's after having 3 brand new batteries drop cells in flight within the first 12 flights with each of them. |

I shunned off Nimh's an Nicd's after having 3 brand new batteries drop cells in flight within the first 12 flights with each of them. And I tried two A123s (through a Smart Fly) and had one go bad within six months. I would use an extension cord but I can't find one long enough. :) George |

That's what I'm running but the batteries are the newer Eneloop 2000 mAh AA NMH cells, no problems at all using 4 cell packs on 36 mhz JR radio & Futaba 2.4.
However there is a thread kicking about here in the jets forum which quotes the internal resistance of cells & the Eneloop cells have quite a high internal resistance so they may have a large voltage drop at VERY high servo currents. I've been using twin 2700 6volt nimh thru JR switches into AR9000 in all my 80 size jets with no issues over hundreds of flights, I charge every 2 flights, about 300 amps per flight.
I do use Sanyo cells though, Gary. |

Out of all the batteries out there, NiMi would be my last choice !!!! I've seen too many false peaks and inconsistant Mah recharge amounts... Never got bit, but got rid of them before the they had a chance. IMHO, Nicad's have hauled the hobby for alot of years, and it's one of those " If it ain't broke don't fix it " . In the modern technolgy Batt's for reciever app's , I would go with the A123's... In either case you don't have regulators, power boards, ect..... All of which just adds failure points. Battery - Switch - Reciever... Don't get much simpler than that.
