MODS FOCUS ON THE VIRUS

Mods, you seriously need to address the issue of the virus/trojan on RCU.

This has been going on for a number of days now.

Your quick to moderate so try and be quick on this one.[:@]

how about all the rest of the promblems RCU has lately ...we cant log in , pages are down, we can place adds , attachments from posts been lost...
maybe we should all move to another forum?

so who own RCU now?

Why so long to deal with this virus issue?

RE: MODS FOCUS ON THE VIRUS

Are we sure its a virus? In another thread it was mentioned that it only shows up in IE, not in Crome, and I don't get it in Firefox with Sophos antivirus.

Sounds like it might be an IE bug to me...

More like an IE vulnerability that is being exploited.

RE: MODS FOCUS ON THE VIRUS

For me RCU is performing perfectly as normal! Although recently I had a problem as described below....

My PC picked up a virus, which was not picked up by my virus check scan and automatically deleted or quantined. It was a file dumper trojan that was uploading god knows what onto the internet. It really slowed by PC down until I got rid of it. I found it by looking at the upload and download speed when the PC is idle. It was running 400kb/s upload! Found the relevant .exe files by threat checking system files (with low risk threshold) with my Virus software (Nod32 - brilliant), and manually deleting.

Why tell the Mod's to deal with it, they're quick to moderate the forums sure, but they can't do anything in regards to a virus or other RCU glitches except report it to admin which I'm sure they've probably done, then it's up to the new owners to fix it, all the mod's can do is sit and wait like everyone else.

I run IE and windows 7. I haven't seen this virus on RCU you guys talk about. I am also using Windows Security Essentials for virus protection. Seems to work great.

. . . or it's not working for crap, which is why it has not detected the virus. :)

Sure . . . until they flip the switch that turns it into a spam zombie. <div>
</div><div>I am only half kidding. A computer with a trojan horse can appear to run fine all the while it is stealing your passwords, contact list, or whatever.</div>

Yes, I know :). But anyone can say the same, anytime with any virus protection. So, all we can do is keep the virus software updated and hope for the best. My experience, though from the year that I have been using it is that it has virtually caught everything in the past. I have no reason so far to believe it won't catch viruses in the future.

The mods can also continually pester the admin to fix it!!!!

RE: MODS FOCUS ON THE VIRUS

Trust me when I say that we are just as frustrated as the rest of you guys are. As it was pointed out above, all we can do is report the problem and then we have to wait for the IT staff to fix it. So we are really in the same boat as you guys are. I know that sounds like a cop out when I say that, but it's the truth of the situation. This is only so much we can do here.

True enough. If I have any reason for suspicion, I will run a 2nd and sometimes 3rd anti-malware program just to be safe. Something like spybot S&D.

When ever I click on anything on Rcuniverse my virus protection brings up a pop up saying a website related to spyware is trying to access your website. This website has been blocked. It's some weird website thing. So I think im protected.

I'm running Firefox and Avast pro and I am getting it so its not IE.

rhklenke 02-25-2011 01:46 PM

RE: MODS FOCUS ON THE VIRUS

Symantec Corporate Edition with Firefox and Sophos with Firefox don't see it...

Interesting. Maybe Avast is much better than the others? or not?

Was this the same virus others have from here and if so do you remember what the .exe files were called?

thanks

It is a Trojan.FakeAV!gen29 bug........been around the net since late last year.

Downloaded from http://reallypulse.com/Flasjh_Player..._for_win.40062[1].exe

Norton nails it and quarantines it in the background......
