Another F1 inspired 2.5m Futura....
 

Guys,

Duncan at www.aero-creative.com has started working on my 2.5m Futura.

We're going a little retro on this one but I hope it works out as well as it did in my Photoshop mock ups!

Anyway, we've tried something new on mine - can you say carbon vinyl canopy done in one piece :D :D

Nice.. I look forward to seeing this one come together as the scheme itself is very nice!
Not sure about the carbon canopy. Seeing as its retro and all, I would have been inclined to have gone satin black as per Carsten's. Sweet to see that Dunc managed to get it down in one piece.. he seems to be getting better and better each time.
I have just had another two 2.5's arrive whilst I was away, so have to put my thinking hat on for schemes. I am having an urger to try something out of the motor sport theme, as that seems to be rolling along quite well right now.

Carston, you are slightly biased LOL. It's not that retro, the scheme is from Damon Hill's 1995 Williams, so they had been using full Carbon tubs for a few years by then :D

The one piece canopy was tricky, the carbon wrap vinyl stretches well and will shrink back to it's original size, but not shrink any further. This meant it was necessary to put an 8" slit at the back of the canopy to remove the excess.

Yep, this is what I spent ages messing about with in Photoshop before sending it....let's see how close Dunc can get to it :)

But, I would leave the vertical fairing out, I have tried on mine with and without, and I seriously think it looks much better without it (and thats not because I'm lazy :D).
In my eyes, there is more "orca" over it when the fairing is attached....

Looks great in that scheme... This should change my mind for mine... (still working on structural meanings, mine is basic kit and i'm not as speedy-builder like Ali !:D)

This scheme seems OK and for me better with the rudder fairing as the curves of the rudder scheme goes with it...

What does the underside looks like ?

yep it will look great with the fairing on this scheme, mainly becuase it's already been bonded to the vertical stab ;)

Carstens does look better without it, but as Ali said it's very scheme dependant. Have you tried taping the fairing on and laying over the silver stripes i put in for you?

Carsten, the fairing is staying as I went through the ball ache of fitting it all and rubbing back/blending/painting etc! Besides, it's scheme dependent I reckon. Plus, it'll mean mine will edge past yours at Bickley :D

Yes, I tried putting it on (used some scrap silver vinyl I had, to save the beatiful ones you made for me :D), I just don't think it does the trick, the plane reminds me of a whale with that fairing on [:-]:D
But you are right, the scheme decides it, in Mark's case it's probably better with it on after all... ;)

If Dunc isn't being forced to work around the clock on this one it should be okay... hopefully! ;)

So Bickley Jet is turning into a Futura fly in, better pack my wide angle lens then for the group shot.

He was indeed, but he wasn't racing for Williams in 1995. They had Damon Hill and David Coulthard. Mansell raced for Mclaren that year, after being replaced at williams by Coulthard

Actually lads-Mansell drove in 1994 for williams -in france and australia-and won the race!

and returned with red 2 -oh dear mark-back to school for you.

LOL you need to read Wikipedia again. Damon Hill ran number 5 at williams in 1995. After they booted Mansell out in the January, he moved to Mclaren running the number 7.;)

I would ask for a refund Mark. That canopy shape that Dunc has applied looks totally different to the ones that are in your photoshop images :eek::D
