Air Power 5-Function Valve vs. Fly Eagle 5-Function Valve?
Hi,
I'm building a jet for a guy, and he is providing the valves for the gear and brakes. I favor mechanical valves but, alas, it's his jet and he has provided the FEJ valve. I'm not familiar with this valve, but I think he also has the AP one. Is there one that's preferable? If so, why? Also, I have never used festos for air systems. Are people having good luck with setups utilizing festos throughout? The lines and fitting seem far heavier than Robart tubing and tees, but... Thanks in advance for any insight. |

The difference in the FEJ and The AP is that you can program the AP. Unless FEJ has upgraded there unit you have to go with the setting from the factory.
I install the AP valves in most of my builds and they work great. They are easy to set up once you do it a few times but the instructions are not the best. Hope this helps |

if its the FEJ with the display on it you can program it. I am getting one with my f-16, it controls everything and has a fail safe built in.

Hi I have been using the 5 port FEJ valve in my large hawk for a while now and it has worked great,no problem setting it up,i would use one again in the next model.

I tried to use the FEJ one on the Vieprjet I built. When I bought it I thought that it was an AP one but was somewhat mislead.
The FEJ unit I had was not programmable and had fixed delays. It also had really poor air flow. This combined with fairly large gear on the Viperjet and the gear moved too slow when retracting. This wouldn't have been as much of a problem if you could set the timing for the gear doors closing.... The two valves may look the same but the FEJ is just a copy and not a very good one. PaulD |

Was this the old version without the display on it?

FEJ Valve has couple different versions.
One is very simple and anotehr one is new version with display on, gear failsafe, door timing set upt function. Also, there are different nipples with 3mm or 4 mm airflow for small models or big models. If you got large viper, you might change to 4mm nipples. Valve is not a copy, do not make it wrong. I own the AP and the ev5u 2.0 from FEJ, and the FEJ is much simplier. It is a piece of cake to program all the setting.

Festo are industrial connectors, they are quite reliable. I have been using them on all of my jets for the last 5 years without any issue. The range of available fittings gives you a lot of flexibility.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies, everyone. Eagle, is the older unit from FEJ unable to have the timing changed? It says 3 seconds on the site, but can that be reprogrammed to go 2 seconds? Thanks. |
RE: Air Power 5-Function Valve vs. Fly Eagle 5-Function Valve?
No, the older unit can not be changed timing.
Thanks James |
