Yellow stingray build

I will be building this for a friend who lives a good distance away, so instead of sending pics to him directly I fighured I'd make them public for all interested. It will be p60 powered, Y/A retracts, robostruts BVM wheels and brakes. Here we go.

Starfire's at the airbrushers, plus I wanna get on the 18 pretty quick, and this one is standing in my way. Ha Ha

Tanks assembled, servo hatches cut out, servo hatch mounting blocks attached, wing spar reinforcing plates glued to spars, spar slot liners glued in wings ( not yet in pics ), nose gear mount assembled, speed brake hinges glued to brake. We'll maiden it on your B Day for sure, hopefully, well... Maybe.

Hello,
nice work so far, i have just finished one off but for an edf.My last one had a homebuilt Wren 54 on it and was overweight and overpowered a p60 will be more than enough but i think a p20 would work???,
cheers Euan.

i never thought of a P20!

I know JF flew one on a wren 44, but ive no idea what the AUW was.

I looked at this model for P-20 but I think it is too big/heavy.

IMO the perfect engine is the Wren 44 Gold.

The Wren44, the gold, or the P60 are supposed to be good choices. For this one, we have a P60 ready. Goals are for a slick airframe with with emphasis on build quality and light weight. We are keeping the P60 propane start. Hope to have her in the air in July.

Dang your quick.
I have been building mine for a couple of years now.........

Did you keep the rudders removable or are they glued down solid?

I am building for a 44 gold and shooting for under 10 lbs dry.

RE: Yellow stingray build

Rudders are removable. The build is actually going slow since I'm building finishing my starfire, and sneaking in a little bit of build time on my 18 twin.

Hi All i had one of these with a wren super sport 18lbs thrust!! yep well over the top,it was very quick but on a high speed run it just stopped responding to elevator and took a slight nose down attitude and went in!some body called it a high speed stall but i have never worked it out and still wonder what and how it was caused, perhaps some body could tell me???

RE: Yellow stingray build

We would need a lot more info to make a reasonable guess.
This would be best asked in its own thread, rather than to take over this nice build thread.

What was your AUW? What servos were you using?

RE: Yellow stingray build

Hi,

Nope, not a high-speed stall based on what you wrote. Sounds like radio to me, but a stall is going to require some AOA on the wing, and if it's just smoking along straight and stops responding (not in some pitch-input situation), it doesn't sound like a stall.
