orbit power jack and hitec servos
 

help ,,so this is my first try with the orbit power jack and hitec servos,,i was setting the ailerons up and adding a mix so it was taking some time and both the aileron servos hitec 5245 fried on separate channels also,i am using lithium ions and 6volt regs,,could the higher servo signal from the orbit power jack be the trouble ,,anyone have a similar problem

well from my understanding the servo voltage is adjustable, you dont need a regulator with the orbit it regulates the voltage to the receiver from the servos. I have not got one yet but im going to use on mine.

from what i have read the servos see the voltage of the battery and the signal wire to the servo is the only thing that the power jack regulates that is why i needed to run a reg cause the battery voltage is 7.4 volts,,i have plenty of planes with this set up useing lithium ions and 6 volt regs with hitec servos the only thing new is the power jack thought it would be a good idea to add it cuase it distirbutes the power to the servos not the receiver and has two battery inputs

i am using hitec servos( the programmable one's about 35kg) and a power jack in a jl f15 with 2 cell lipo's and a power box switch that has a regulator in it and it is fine on this set up, the power jack is not a regulator in any way i know the instructions lead you to belive that it is but it is not, i know this for sure because the shop that supplied it (motors and rotors in the uk) spoke to the owner of the company that makes it about this very subject.

hello ,,yes i have the regulators on the battery input ports the power jack only regulates the signal wire output of the receiver and boosts it to 5volts plus distributes the servo voltages through high current traces that are directly from the batteries which in this caes are lithium ions regulated down to 6volts into the power jack,,never had a servo let alone 2 on different channels stop within seconds of each other and let smoke out ,,wondering if it is a signal voltage problem which would be related to the power jack or if these servos just don't like a sustained 6.1 voltage for a long period ?

It has nothing to do with the powerjack. The only thing the PJ does is LOWER the voltage going to the receiver. It does not AMPLIFY the voltage to the servos....one of two things going on here:

1) The voltage is not set right on the regulator

and / or

2) Welcome to Hitec servos......I lost 4 of them (at different times) on my 40% AW Yak.....bye bye. Back to another trusted brand.

I have had the same hitec servos in my 100cc yak since 08 and not a single issue. I have seen every brand out there cause crashes, nothing human can make will ever be perfect and not have defective items.

How long did the hitecs have power applied before they smoked and were they used previously with a different setup or on the bench with a 4 cell rx pack?

hello chad as i understood the orbit dose amplify the servo signal from what a regular 2.4 receiver puts out,it states in the instuctions that it is a 14 channel servoamplifier with double voltage regulators for the 6014 receiver enabling you to gang a few servos onto one channel is this not correct,,says the max amplifiers of the power jack6014 buffers the servo signals to 5 volt level,i have checked both regulators under a load and and they are a consistent 6.1 volts and according to hitecs response that voltage is not a problem,,not bashing the power jack i would really like it to work may all be just a coincident that this is the first burned servos and the first powerjack will put more ner servos in and bypass the orbit and see what happens thanks for the input

the servos are new purchased a while back and yes setting up the plane i used a sub-c 4.8 volt pack to find center for control linkage then switch to the regulated ions for control throws, rates and mixes ,just a guess but the servos were powered up for 30 to 45 minutes and to be fare there is no run in the f-18 wing for them to breath maybe they just got to hot running in full rates for that long ,hitec did sudjest that could be the case
