CompARF wing issues /HELP
Guys, I am having some issues with the ailerons on my flash wing. They are hanging up on the skin when you move them down. Is there a fix for this?

Dave
Very unusual on a Flash wing. Is there any movement on the hinge up and down? Also is this with you using the pushrod to operate the surface, or moving the surface itself? Any damage to the wing/aileron TE opening? If you place a length of thin plywood/cardboard over the underside of the aileron over its length and gently lower the aileron, it will curve the thin skin away from the aileron, then wave a heat gun up and down for 1minute (keep it moving) Leave the sheet in place until the surface cools fully. This should leave the skin with a small curve away. Dave |

Agree, have had two Flashes and seen/handled a couple from friends, never seen this issue, as advised check for hinge or surface damage, yet if no damage, you can proceed as Dave suggest, avoid sanding the trailing edge of the wing at the aileron opening or the aileron leading edge, will put you at risk of delamination, my advice is DO NOT sand.

I just built 2 Classif Flash's and both had a slight hangup on the same side, very minor and remedied easliy.

RE: CompARF wing issues /HELP
I've always used a narrow strip of clear packing tape on Comp ARF surfaces to 'guide' the edge of the control surface under the edge. Works like a charm and lasts forever. Will do the same with my Flash as soon as I am done painting.

RE: CompARF wing issues /HELP
I've sold over 50 Flash models and its the first ones I have heard of. Storage/packing is the most likely, plus you guys see higher temps than we do, so epoxy softens very slightly, if any pressure is against the surface when it cools it will set that way. I used to get it on my Rookie/Harpoon, but that had a very thin edge on the front side of the hinge cut, the Flash is much thicker. Simple fix, but something to look out for on pre flight control checks.

Our Bandit is notorious for this on the elevators, we always store them with the elevators in the down position....guess the Flash is going to get that treatment too...
