Looking for UAT alternative
Does anybody have the web site for the guy that was selling generic UAT tanks?
|
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
You can buy them from Modellbau USA or TBM they both sell them.
www.modellbauusa.com speak to Henry he can take care of you |
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
Don't see it on either sites.

the MAP bubble free tanks are the best ones i have used. I find its much better than the BVM UAT style tanks with the sock/bag pickup. ~V~ |
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
The MAP ones are really good and they also have an option for oversize fittings for larger engines - 160 to 200 size.
I have used the standard MAP and also the oversize. Really well made. The other one that you may be thinking of: http://www.bhhanson.com/Aircraft%20H...uct%20Line.htm Scroll down to the bottom. PaulD |
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
Try making a header tank yourself from a small fuel tank it is very easy and costs about £6

ORIGINAL: marc s New, simple and work...... marcs From the packaging, to the wood cradle, machine cut from 5+ ply, not burnt out of crap liteply, to the tank itself, is STUNNING..... Have been using BVM UAT, But the Air bubbles and bleeding seem problematic, and so time to try another system, it has a paper filter in the middle of the tank, next to no bleeding or trapped air as best i can see... GBR Products including there servo mounts are as good as it gets... WELL DONE Marc... cheers Jeremy. |

Hi Guys i have a few of these for sale, made a few for myself and had to buy a bunch of bottles so when they are gone thats it,nipples have 1/8" inside dia,i can add a third nipple to take the fuel from the two saddle tanks so a Y is not needed and is less resrticted.price $35 including p/p pm me if interested email [email protected]

RE: Looking for UAT alternative
Jetmodeller, where did you find that pleated filter that can be soldered? I can only find ones with a large hole in one end...some with a rubber plug in it. Thanks.

The real alternative to a UAT is not to use one at all.

RE: Looking for UAT alternative
I use the Hanson traps with my Rabbit and Superbee. They work quite well and I've never had a problem with either in 2+ years of service. Inexpensive, too.

RE: Looking for UAT alternative
Marc where in USA can I get a large air trap??
|
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
Luckyy, they will be available shortly via Dreamworks, the large CAT's will be made next week and then shipped out with the rest.
If your in a hurry PM me and I can arrange to send one from here. marcs |
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
ORIGINAL: Zagzoo In the usa you can make them for under $15ish. Napa/autozone has the pleated filter (injector filter) for $3, there is a web site called the containerstore for the bottle $.99, fittings $10. Just soldier 3/16'' brasstube to the filter (thru a wheelcollar). Yes you are quite right, when Sandor at Digitech had his online shop running, you could buy the standard phamesutical bottles from him for about £10 + he also sold the tea bag and all the other bits cheap too, so I don;t know why the BVM ones are so expensive. I bought a couple of bottles from him, as when my Intro went in a couple of years ago, the original BVM bottle got holled, so the parts were removed and I inserted them into a new bottle but I also now have a spare bottle. Sandor came over to Bickley Jets in 2009, and was selling stock on his stand, he had complete BVM copy air traps for sale for £20, which I purchased one, I now wish I had purchased a few more to use in other models, as people always seem to sell models less the air trap! Judging by the price of the BVM ones, that must be like leaving a gold nugget in the airframe:D Mind you, after seeing Mark S's air traps at Bickley this year, they look great, and at least they look like your getting some value for your money as they are custom made, rather than your paying big $ for something you know is and can be made cheaply. |
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
I like my PST air trap. Works well, has large fittings, totally clear container so you can see what is going on inside, high capacity and is extremely rigid so it cannot collapse like the soft Nagalene bottle type units that BVM, Hansen and others use.
|
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
Yes have got to say those baby type bottles look the nuts, ever since I saw a PST article in RCJI mag. didn't know they sold them separately from their own kits, also would love to know the cost of one?
|
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
I ordered mine for about $50 USD from Bruce Thorpe Eng. http://www.btemodels.com/rarf-fueltanks.html
You may be better served ordering directly from PST jets. See this thread and send the RCU member "B777" a message. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_55.../anchor/tm.htm I should be a rep! |

Big ups to you marc s!
I ran a JC Rabbit in my BVM Mig-15 today with your 'C.A.T- Small' as a replacement for a rather bloody temperamental BVM UAT and it was brilliant!! Seriously one of the best quality, simple components I've seen in 30 years of modeling. From the superb service, to the packaging and delivery, to the first class build quality and finally the performance - the GBRjet C.A.T's are as good as it gets! Now using GBRjet's servo mounts, air tank mounts, C.A.T, Tank and duct upgrade throughout my Tomahawk 1:3.5 HAWK. Keep at the innovation please marc... lovin it! |

BVM UAT...... Why fix what ain't broke !!!! ?????

RE: Looking for UAT alternative
at high flow rates it can cause and add to static build up in flight. I use the BVM UAT on most of my stuff, however have used alternatives (MAP ) on the big block engines . The UAT also can't handle high flow volume all to well with its small fittings, and even JetCat has suggested that if running a BVM UAT, running 2 in parallel might be a good idea on the big 45lbs+ engines to facilitate adequate flow without sucking the UAT in on itself

You can see through it easily - its opaque and fuel can be seen clearly through the sides.

BaldEagle (Mike)
Where did you obtain the pleated paper pickup? I bought a couple from Mick Reeves, who no longer advertises them, and would like more. Also, how did you make it fit a standard fueltank bunghole? |
RE: Looking for UAT alternative
1 Attachment(s)
The standard filter will not fit through the Dubro type bung hole, or even the aluminium rings you can buy to make the tank fit more reliable, I made a custom clunk for a customer along with a tank to do this - the process was to take the pleated filter, I used one the same diameter as the small unit you refer to but twice the length so as to maintain a good filter length, cut the glued ends off, machined up some brass ends, one with an M6 thread to fit a barbed fitting to and hysol'd the whole shooting match together.
See picture of finished result. PM me for info on where to get these filters. marcs |

I fitted the first of my Micro C.A.T's to my p-20 powered F-100 Recently. It was the perfect solution as it fitted into the area above the intake and inside the rear-spine of the fuselage perfectly.
Basically to repeat what has been said before about this product.... What a stunning bit of kit. A bit like any other true quality product. You just know how good it is even before you see the product itself. From the packaging, to the presentation, right to the perfectly neat construction, fit and finish. I dont know why I was surprised, as this is the standard of everything that Marc has delivered to me over the past three years we have been working together. Everything worked as I would expect. A few coughs and splutters on the very first run, but no flame outs. After one tank and a good old shake about on full throttle showed everything running perfectly. I flew the F-100 and loved it so much that I ran it dry of fuel.... right down to the last drop that the felt clunk could pick up! I have just ordered a Super C.A.T for my new P-200 powered Mirage 2000, and I am pretty sure this wont be the last C.A.T fitted to my models. Nice one Marc! Regards Al |

Happy days in NZ!
Skived out of the office today to grab a small 'window' in some pretty crappy weather and to test two models just fitted with Marc's new Composite Air Traps. We have both been chasing air bubbles out of UAT's for months and we'd put it down to good luck more than anything that we hadn't lost a model. One flight things would be fine - the next a flame out on the take off run, over and over again. Limited success was causing a major lack of confidence in both setups. Both models have painstakingly thorough setups and every stone was unturned to sort the fuel problems out without success... until today! One of the setups is in a pic in a post above. Models tested with the new CAT's were: - A BVM Mig 15 running a Jet Central Rabbit with a small CAT. - A Carf Rookie ll running a Behotec 66 with a medium CAT. Can report not a bubble in sight all day on either model and both engines ran flawlessly - a couple of shots attached. Stoked Marc - cheers to CAT's! |
