Skymaster A4 Skyhawk
I'm currently planning my winter build which I'm particularly excited about as its for me rather than the usual customer projects :)
I've had a look through the other threads but they don't contain any build pictures. Would those that have built this model be kind enough to show some build pictures or perhaps pictures of the equipment layout and installations they've done. What sort of real world dry weights are you achieving etc... Im waiting to receive a white gelcoat version. I'm planning on modifying the wing to include slats a major undertaking but one that I hope will be worthwhile. Anton, Can you provide me a picture of the internal structure of the wing please? This would really help. Many thanks Alex |
RE: Skymaster A4 Skyhawk
No one?
I'd be interested to hear how people got on with the build, perhaps its not such a popular model? Cheers |
RE: Skymaster A4 Skyhawk
Are you sure you want to do this? Sounds like a lot of work. Anyway, you can probably figure out the internal layout by gently squeezing the wing with your fingers to see where the spars are running. And from the photo on the SM site, the end rib is full of lightening holes so it wont be hard to see inside.

RE: Skymaster A4 Skyhawk
Who would know the internal structure of the wing? That's silly. Just deal with it when you get it. They probably come out different anyway depending on the day of the week.

RE: Skymaster A4 Skyhawk
I agree Andy, I wouldnt expect anyone to know about the wing except SM, this is why I asked Anton on my first post. As you say it would be 'silly' to think anyone on RCU could help with that except maybe Anton. SM have been helpful with the A4 to date and if I get time I'll do a build thread as I normally do with the more interesting models I build.
I'm just wondering if anyone's got any pictures of the build in general? But not to worry I don't think there's that many about. |
RE: Skymaster A4 Skyhawk
I know the cost difference may be the reason, but why not just get the Comp-arf A-4 instead of trying to re-engineer a skymaster A-4 to get what you want out of it, when the comp-arf already has it designed in to begin with?

RE: Skymaster A4 Skyhawk
As you said 'cost' compounded by the fact I got a good deal on the SM version second hand, to buy then kit out a Carf A4 must be well over 15k :(
It's not that much work considering we used to have to build from boxes of wood, anyway I'm going to see how heavy the stock build is first. Ali reckons the model is to small to warrant the extra weight so I probably have a rethink. I'll just wait and see what the kits like I suppose. |
