Cross Trim (Anyone using this feature)
 

Anyone use cross trim ? Pros and cons of it's use welcome as I am thinking of trying it. I regonize the plus side in that you don't have to take your fingers off the elevator in an out of trim condition, which is a major plus IMO. My only concern is forgetting the trims are crossed. [X(]

I loved using cross trims for that reason, but when I went to JR, the 9503 has a ratchet type trim on throttle and digital types all the other trims, so I thought it weird to use a digital trim on my throttle.. (especially since I've gone to jets)... so I went back to the old style set up.

never cared for it myself, damn sure don't like the digital trim on throttle (Futaba). if it's so bad out of trim that you can't take your hand off the stick, just use the other hand :)

We used cross trim alot in the pattern world back in the 1980's. I would say most of us quit using it in the mid to late 90's. I do not understand why you have to take your fingers off the elevator at any time. Trim with your left fingers.

Way back in the 70's I had a Kraft KP-7Z that had crossed trims. They were located at the top left and right top of the transmitter case. I thought it was a great feature and could never understand why no other manufacturer, except Pro Line, had the same feature.
With the Pro Line sticks and the electronic trims, not mechanical trims like most used, it was the smoothest, most comfortable TX I've ever owned.

I don't know what radio you use. If it is a JR 12X, the LTRM/HVPT mini switch on the upper left hand corner of the throttle gimbal can be programmed as elevator trim.
It can be used in conjunction with the regular trim. So, depending on your preference or situation, you can trim using either one.

Call me old fashion but I still use cross trims.
On the throttle just increase the step rate, its that simple.

Started using cross trims a couple years ago, after getting my 14MZ. Works for me!

Call me older fashioned! I have never liked cross trims...just kept forgetting the default was cross trim. Always had a few anxious moments with a new plane till I remembered the cross trims. :)

I have never met a cross dre...I mean trimmer at the field before[X(] I could not resist.

I used cross trims for over 10years on my Futaba 9Z and had to switch back 4 years ago when I lost feeling in my thumb and first two fingers after I had a severe arm break. I would still be flying cross trims if I could.

With the high-end Futabas TXs you just reassign throttle trim to the analog slider next to the throttle lever and you get an analog throttle trim .. takes about 10 seconds to do. The analog throttle trim on the JRs really is a nice feature for jets .. but easy to emulate with the Futabas.

I used to use cross-trims on my 9Z but it got too confusing to remember which radios were set up with it and without it, and nightmare if you fly other people's stuff or they fly yours. Most of the jet guys at our club try to set up all the TXs as similarly as possible, even across brands, in case we share some flight time...

Cross trimming was created so a pilot could do just that;
Trim the elevator without taking ones fingers off the elev stick.( a good thing) or negating having to reach over with the left hand.(another good thing)
In the older days of analog trimers adjusting the trims happened right now...(Another good thing)...
You as the pilot did not have to wait for the beep ...beep... beep and delayed action or over shoot
of digital trims...(a bad thing, espeically if you have a bronking buck on your hands)

Standardization of whatever your radio setup is will result
in fewer crashes due to brain farts associated with switching transmitter setups, styles,switch positions...

Would love to see new digital radios come with quick
analog style trimers. prefer a radio with analog trimmers for maiden test flights....

Crosstrimming is a good thing.....if you have been doing it....the changeover can be dangerous if your a creature of habit.
Could shut the turbine off easily if a B fart occurs or
you tell a helper...."give me full up elev trim" and he does.....shutting the engine down.
(avoid this scenario by making sure to tell the helper ahead of time).

How often have you have to retrim for takeoff/landing or so on is another consideration.

You can always go back....
