Scale Cockpits
 

Hey guys I have looked around at 1/6 F-16 cockpits and I was just wondering with all the builders out there if someone did this in their spare time. I am looking for something very scale and very lite weight that does not cost 250+
I could make one myself but it takes a lot of time and with work and a 4 year old I just dont have the drive for it. So if anyone does this on the side for and cheaper let me know. I saw a plastic model one time but cannot seem to find anything about it on the net now.

If it takes a lot of time...and you want something VERY scale...why would you think that someone would not charge AT LEAST $250?

Agreed Paul. Very scale and it takes a lot of time (say 60 - 80 hours of work) for under $250. Yea, I would love ot work for under $4 an hour. :D

What you get from China is pretty sweet fopr the price.

Well I could make something in a day or two just using my current as a template. I just think 250+ is a lot for something like this is all. Its just a question not for making a dart board out of and making a huge deal. I see lots of people make things hear a lot cheaper that's why I asked.
I get time is money but you never know what people have lying around they make be looking to part with.
It doesn't have to be museum scale just something better than I got, I agree time is money but anyway there you go.

I just had the light bulb go off, I can install Microsoft flight sim and just down load a high rez f-16 and use the cockpit images to make a cockpit template. Man okay time to go get some more printer ink LOL
That should speed things up if I just make another one.

If you get your hands on the 1/12 kit you could use that for a pretty decent reference. Then make the parts you want scaled up from that.
Also, take some time to look closely at other 1/6 scale F-16 models and take note of the items you can actually see once the pilot is installed and canopy closed. That's where you want to spend your effort. No point building a highly detailed cockpit if you can't see all of it. If your canopy will open then perhaps you will see more detail etc.

Btw, I'm in the same boat as you as I'll be looking to start an Avonds F-16 this winter. For that scale (1:6.8) there is no commercially available unit so it will need to be scratch built.

nice one! I think my problem is motivation LOL just cant get myself into the mood [&o] I guess I can just fly it without it for awhile. I wish I could find someone who could scale up a 1/12 they are easy to get but I dont have the materials required. Be cool if one of the plastic model companies made a 1/6 version LOL just imagine the money it would the Jet community if they did LOL

If you buy pay for the materials and send a blank tub, i could do up the cockpit for you. It wontt be around $250 (your looking at atleast double that in materials alone), but it could be done up in cad and then printed in 3d.

Just to give you an idea on pricing, the front panel on my f14 cockpit is over $130 alone.

I built one of hte Esci 1/12 cockpits many, many years ago. It was a 2 week build and paint. Looked awesome, but at least 40 hours of work. Still have a new on in teh box as they have been out of production fo a while now I believe.

When you find someone who is willing let him know we need 2 complete cockpits for the BVM F-4's I am building. And we are willing to pay a solid $500 or better for nice ones.

What I would give to have Paul Reese doi the landing gear!!!!!!! His work is out of this world!!!

I can do the same with balsa with what I have on hand, only thing I need is a variety of woods. No need for exotic materials to get a very precise cockpit? Okay looks like I have a new project/challenge. The way I do it is use simple balsa sheets for layout then use a combo of glue/dowels to make switches and knobs. Raised panels are done with different thickness paper materials. Finally paint and some small printed display decals.

Last time I built something to replace the orig only took a few days. My problem is getting motivated.

Motivate me, I'll build you a kick *** cockpit..... Keep in mind what motivates me is money....... I'll hook you up with live digital screens in th cock pit, perfect scale replica, you'll be the envy of all the hanger queens..... I'll take $250 for a down payment....

HI, and when you give up, Rcpete has expensive scale cockpits, so years after use, you sell it for what you paid for it.

I have a cockpit kit model coming in 1/8 that I plan to pull molds from and use in my Tam Jets F-16. I'll post info later and offer a resin kit. It's highly detailed so it would be a good start for a 1/6 version.

Get after it ! The F-16 can still fly while you work on the cockpit. I found a new apprecation for those that build scale cockpits when I had a go of it in trying to come up with something for my rather mundane Eurosport stock cockpit. Turned out to be a lot of fun, albeit time consuming. It's amazing what a little wood, styrene & paint can do.

Yeah very true, I was looking at some items tonight hobby lobby I could for switches, knobs, of different shapes and sizes. I already got some photo realistic pics for diagrams.
