does anyone else suffer from the build bug these days

I find myself needing a new project about ever six months. This would normally be normal for most but unless your packing some serious finances very hard to do. I guess this is the down fall to the large gas planes and now jets for me.
Any of you smart people found a way to cope with this? Only thing I have figured to do is start playing mmo pc games again.

You know your bored when you post about being bored :D

Definitely, me too. When I was into aerobatics, I'd spend the winter building a nice Carden. The last 3 years, I've been into jets, I miss the building. You don't "build" a jet, you assemble it and it can take you as little as 2 weeks. It certainly doesn't get you through the winter. I started a Flash a couple of weeks ago and it's almost done and it's only Dec. 4. Got at least 4 months of winter ahead of me.

I thought about that but im pretty anal with jets not sure how would deal, but then again making something perfect again could be the challenge.

If I didn't have a project I'd go stir crazy during the winter months. The trouble is if I don't finish a plane during the winter it will sit till the next building season. Flying come first. So to pass this winter away I have 2 building projects and an assembly project. A 1/4 scale BUSA Cub that will be on floats (hopefully with retracts), a new wing for my R-54 and a soon to arrive F4D Skyray form Global Jet Club that will need assembly.

This is the problem I have and is how I have finished up with over 140 planes in about 7 years.

HI, I find myself, needing a break form jet building, so I go to the fermentation room (stock room) :D and get a 1/12th scale cockpit for my Bandit and Bobcat. I have finished both in the pics, but waiting for 5'' pilots.

Also, while I wait for my new project, I went to the fermentation room to get this 27 year old Balsa USA Sopwith Pup, 1/3rd scale.

I got bit by the building but really bad last year and this year.. Last year's project (that got finished) was this Seidel radial powered FW-190. This years project(s) will probably be a 1/4 vought V-173 design/scratch build (about 85% complete with the plans), a Jerry Bates b-26 (got the short kit) and Highest priority is getting an F-14 molded :)

That's only true for an ARF. There are a lot of jet kits out there that take quite a bit of building - even some of the composite kits. I did a BVM F-100 a few years back and I had over 600 hours in it with all of the systems and scale details - and I didn't do the external finish - that was plated.

We have a plans-built Ziroli Turbinator and a 110% Ziroli Panther to paint, an FEJ Rafael to convert to turbine from an EDF, and an Xtreme Jets F-4 ARF to fit out - once it comes. I'm not sure we'll be able to get it all done before next season...

I design it ,then i get a truckload of foam, then try to build it, then i redesign it, then i try to build it again, then.........
Takes a bit longer than two weeks, and foam is cheap. you should try it! Its real messy....... but fun!

I suffer from this build bug constantly, to help with this problem I've gotten into scratch building drawing up my own plans by hand (I have a CAD program in this computer but I'm just about puter illiterat, anyway this scratch building really helps this syndrome as it takes so much longer to build a plane and is good head exercise, and as a bonus I build em any size I want!

You must have been talking to my wife! :D Actually, she and Louie painted an upstairs bathroom two weeks ago and did a fairly decent job. I'm feeling like my painting chores are taken care of until Louie goes off to college in 4 years. All I have to do is keep him in jets and he can do the house painting...

I once stripped and repainted a jet in a different color scheme. I flew it for three years in the stock color then needing a winter project and not having 8K for a new jet, decided to refinish an existing jet. Total cost was about $400 and it took a considerable amount of time. The best part was that in the spring, it felt like I had a bran new jet!

No offense but you obviously have not ever built a BVM scale jet. I have several projects for this winter. Finishing a 80" BVM Sabre for a customer, building a new set of wings for my F100 that got damaged when I ran out of fuel. Building a BVM F16 for electric power. I have enough models in stock and as a back log I could build for the next 20 years and never finish them all. Try a real build job and I guarantee it will satisfy you at least all winter long.

No offense taken! And you are absolutely right, now that I think about it, there are some really nice jet "kits" out there; BVM, Airworld, Tomahawk all come to mind. I have never had the pleasure of building one, All my jets have been ARF's. I must try one of those high end kits one day! Thanks for the reminder!
