WHAT THROWS WHEN USE ELEVONS?
 

hi guys, i have a question regarding my f16 1/6 throws. i am at the point to setup the throws but i need your advise and opinion on this.
On my other f16 1/8 scale i use normal elevators and aileron with the given throws from manufacturer. On this one i am thinking to make elevons so as to assist ailerons . The throws given by manufacturer is 50mm elevators and 15mm ailerons when used normaly and my question is if i make elevons do i keep the same figures ? Is elevons together and ailerons a good idea ? thanks

You will need more than 15mm Elevon travel for the roll control! Probably 50mm ele and 45mm aileron, each way. Expo ele 20% aileron 25% start there

My preference is somewhat different, 50mm on up/down elevons and 20 to 25 mm left/right, 25% on both. I don´t like too much aleiron response in planes wich has low inertia in the roll axis.

+1 the higher roll rates give you better handling in the landing pattern at slow speed high AOA.

Dave even if i plan to use the ailerons as well together with elevons will i need so much throw on the elevon function?

I wouldnt use both, we tried that on a Cermark F-16 a few years back while experimenting between ailerons and elevons (we had two model memories. We then coupled both and the aeroplane was not groovy, the rolling energy is different and the back end drags itself through the roll.
Either or...I surprised myself by liking the taileron set up.
Maybe if you used 10-15mm roll only on the tailerons...but I just would run one or other. Normally I would say Ailerons and elevator, as a failure on either one surface gives you half a chance, with tailerons...you crash if one fails.
F-16's don't really need the ailerons drooping as flaps, so the ailerons can be used as a single function. If you need a shorter take off you could drop them 10mm.

xm...i like the idea of 2 memories , i might give it a shot also with tailerons at some point, i will maiden it with normal confiquration and see how it goes. i also thought to give tailorns about 10-15mm throw to assist ailerons but am not that experienced on jets to handle it if it starts to behave strange. With ailerons, why would it need assistance!

F-16 models need a good pull to unstick. Landing it needs energy on approach, so you can come in slightly down hill if inexperienced, as soon as nose raises it kills the speed, so aim the nose at you landing strip threshold, try to cross at 2m and then chop the power completely and pull the nose up 10-15 degrees it will scrub speed and start to sink. flare fully to touch down

Thanks Dave i will try this approach and see how it goes. This is bigger plane than my first f16 and i was wondering if it will fly with different characteristics and probaply needs a different handling.

It will fly nicer! Groove and track better. You should feel at home as it will be easier to fly than the smaller model.

Hi Nico. I use this set up on my SU27 and it works fine. 15mm of tailerons for roll and 20mm on the ailerons wich gives you extra redundancy as well and very good roll controll. Thats the set up on the real one as well
