RE: Jetcat 180RX
Both P100's that Ive ran, displayed the same slow spool up time.
However, after the first three flights, the spool up time seemed to improve. It might be my imagination, or do the ECU's use some sort of fuzzy logic and learn as they go along? |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
ORIGINAL: Carsten Groen Got a mail from jetcat, they have this problem solved on the P180RX it appears, they will swap my ECU's and that should fix it :D The P100RX is due for the testbench next week, they will do the same fix to that also So, it seems there is some progress [8D] Did they say what the fix results in? Slightly better repsonse than now, same response as 160SX or better response etc?? |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
Are Jetcat likely to consider this an upgrade (i.e. charge for the update) or will the ECUs be exchanged/updated under warranty?
I have a brand new unrun 100RX and, if they do work out some better settings, I really hope that mine will be updated free of charge. |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
OK,
It seems JetCat have stepped up to the plate and have been working hard on this. They are due to UPS a couple of us new ECUs with new mappings which, according to JC, now results in 160SX like response! Obviously, their testing has been in their workshops so we will look to test these in different models with and without ducting etc at the weekend and feedback to them. Hopefully all will be well in the 'real world' too and this mapping will be included in the future engines. I believe these settings are for 'normal European' type temperatures/pressures where the engines really don't have to work very hard. I am not sure if/how these mappings would work in the previous mentioned -30 and +50 environments or if JC plan to have different mappings for different regions. Hats off to JetCat for at least listening to customers and fixing it ASAP. Rgds, Mark |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
Is it not a bit odd that this hadn't been done before the engines were released?
I could understand it if they had to re-map for extreme environments but for a European manufacturer to supply an engine that wasn't very good at operating in temperate European climates seems a bit of a faux pas. |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
As Mark has said, JC have responded quickly and I am due to receive a new ECU by the weekend.
Weather permitting I will install it, fly it at the weekend and report back. Geoff. |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
Im going to be pulling the trigger on a p-100 for my bandit before the springtime, are they updating ecu's on these?? And could anybody give me some insight on throttle response , say from a p-80se to a p-100...Thanks.

RE: Jetcat 180RX
Let me talk to JetCat USA and get the skinny on this, more later.
I want a P-100 as well for my reaction 54. |

RE: Jetcat 180RX
Hi All, I normally do not post. But after reading these, because I just received my 180, I spoke with Bob at Jetcat USA. He advised me that he has checked the USA turbines and they seem to have the same trottle-up timing as the 160SX. I hope this helps.
Thanks |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
I'm not sure this is a big issue on the P100. Like I said, I can only directly compare mine to the P80 which was in the plane before and I've always had all response on mine set to fast but it's way faster than my 80 was. What's being described on the 180 sounds quite different.
|
RE: Jetcat 180RX
Anything would be fast compared to an old P80!!
What is it like compared to a P80SE (or Merlin 100)? |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
The only other turbine I fly regularly is a P200SX and again - I've not noticed it being slower. I used to also have a P160SX and again response seemed similar. My plane is lighter and overall performance clearly better than the original set up in every aspect.

Jetcat would not admit the problem and express ship new ECUs to some of us to confirm the new settings knowing this is all public unless there truly was a problem. |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
Reaction 54? Matt.... Really? I'll never forget that smoking Bandit with the P-80 back in the day!! DAYAM that thing was fast!!! Reaction 54.... Really?
Timmah!! Just kidding dude Iknow your getting old...:D But seriously do you think that we would think it was fast nowadays??? |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
I talked to Bob tonight and he had not heard anything but will look into it. He sad the P-100s are running fine, he just needs to get more of them (!), they are selling well.
They ship in "normal" setting so if your conditions are favorable you can speed up the acceleration by going to "fast" |

Just kidding dude Iknow your getting old...:D But seriously do you think that we would think it was fast nowadays??? Yes that yellow one was fast, and my last one had a P-180 in it. It was pretty fast too! Yes I am getting old but the reaction is going on floats! I will be the fastest of the old farts at the float flys! |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
No manufacturer in the world is ever going to admit they dropped a "Goolie" like in the automobile industry, they send out a recall to correct faults on their vehicles, so JC is no different, as long a fix comes along to sort the problems, trouble is, like most other technological things, it is moving so fast that sometimes a hiccup will occur! but as long as the companies do the decent thing and fix the problem, we have to just accept it as progress.

RE: Jetcat 180RX
from what bob wilcox at jetcat usa told me, its the same throttle response as the 160sx and 200sx... should be no differance.. i am getting ready to buy one of these for my ultra lightning so i hope this is just a small glitch.. i dolove the simple setup.though... do you guys see a big differance as far as thrust compared to 160sx? there saying 42lbs
|
RE: Jetcat 180RX
I haven't measured the amount of thrust my P180rx produces but I definately notice the increase over the P160sx.
Incidentily, I doubt its putting out 42lb, its more like 40lbs. Geoff. |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
I concur with Geoff. Not 42lbs. Probably 40. It does feel stronger when simply restraining it on the ground.
Also, I would ask Bob if he has actually run one and tested the acceleration. It's very easy to say it's the same as a 160SX or 200SX as that would be everyone's assumption of a replacement for a 160SX. It may transpire that following the remapped ECU they are sending us to test that this will be the case but engines out there at the moment definitely won't be! Rgds, Mark |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
are you saying right now its p70 like response.. thats about 6 seconds... soif you put on about a quarter power then advance to full it powers up quick, but if you start from idle to full its slow....? yes you are right its easy to say its fine.. when i order mine i will have them test before shipped. i have a great relation with bob so he will make sure i get the right one...
|
RE: Jetcat 180RX
I would say that from idle to full power takes about 6 seconds, yes.
As has been posted further up the page, JetCat have a new ECU mapping that is being sent to us to test all is well 'in the field' that should make response pretty much the same as the 160SX. This new mapping is not in any ECU that has left JetCat's German factory yet nor will it be until they hear back from those who are set to 'rubber stamp' their changes. |
RE: Jetcat 180RX
Can't understand how they didn't see this themselves during testing
|
RE: Jetcat 180RX
I'm pleased Mark, I don't resent spending all that money on my car service instead of a new 180 :)
