Bad building technique's

HI Guys
It's bad news when you see so many planes crash through building/and bad glue joints a mate lost his L39 last Sunday through elevator seperation.I got to thinking that a lot of these problems could be avoided by going back to using foam core's and sheeted wings there is a slight increse in weight but at least you get to keep your models. I used this method for years and never lost a model (except a couple of dumb thumbs) the fuz is no problem you can see 99% of it and is easly fixed. Retracts are are a breeze to fit and beleave me they take far more abuse than what we have now, interested in your views
Regards
Mav

There has been a lot of discussion on this subject already above is just one of the many threads.

I'm thinking of making some foam core "ultra" wings for my classic Flash.
The molded in detail is nice on the scale birds but for sport jets I think foam sheeted wings can't be beat, especially for repairs.

P.S. I filled my SM 1/8 F-16 wings with expanded foam and now I'm not worried about them coming apart in the air.

Mark,

Expand on that (no pun intended :D).

What foam did you use? How did you apply, how did you know when it is enough, etc...

I too have considered foaming in my wings on some jets such as the Boomerang XL, maybe my MB339. Perhaps my F22. I have always been concerned that too much foam may expand in an undesirable way causing stress fractures, etc...and it could always become VERY messy if not done right!

I thought of attaching a flexible line like tygon or polypropylene to the foam can and getting those hard to reach areas in wings and stabilizers. Sort of like a "Fix-a-Flat" canister for our cars flat tires. Seems like a gamble and perhaps a weight penalty.

What foam did you use? How did you apply? Got any photos?
Thanks!
Shaz
