Starting out refrences

Hi everyone!

I'm getting ready to get more involved in Jets. I was hoping you might point me to some good refrences for reading up on DF setups and the link. Is there a book that's recommended or a site?

Thanks

Shawnusa

"Mike's Jet Book" by Mike Cherry from Traplet Publications. Traplet advertises in RC Modeler magazine. A very valuable book that takes a practical rather than theoretical approach and simply tells "what works". It names names (brand names). Chapters on fans, engines, pipes, fuel systems, airframes, retracts and a lot of other important stuff.

Get it and read it, preferably more than once. It is about the most perfect answer to your question that there is.

Also, "RC Jet International" magazine, a bi-monthly, also from Traplet, has a column "Ice Life" by Paul Mitchell. The last 6 issues or so have been a series on getting started in ducted fans. They might even have back issues available.

Best of luck.

I've seen that book a number of times in the magazines. I just was not sure if it was really any good. Usually there either out of date or just plug you with a bunch of theroy. I will order it today. I have a copy of last months Jet International. I like the publication. Any other recommendations?

Also, is ther any clubs in the Houston area that have a large Jet User base? I reside on the North side of Houston, Texas.

Thanks again,

Shawnusa

Houston Jets

There are a few jet guys in the Houston area. Most of the turbine flying is being done out at Scobee field. The Mike Cherry book is the one to get, but the best thing you can do to insure success is to start hanging around guys that are already doing what you want to do. Sometimes you can't always find what you need in print. Also this forum (RCU) is good to ask questions that you may have. The best bit of advice I can give you is to not buy any jet stuff (including ducted fan) till you see what works.

Shawnusa,

I ordered 3 years back issues of RCJI. Nearly all topics regarding Jet is covered. You need some time going through all of them. Tab the useful topics. You may need them as a reference later.

Try contacting Chris Mounkley, the owner of TJT turbine. He is helpful and try the best to build high standard jet engines (There is an article about his engine in the recent RCJI. Please Email him at [email protected].

Hope this helps.
Aldous.
