The perfect setup?
 

So after 20+ years in the hobby im still looking for that best setup scenario. I know everyone has a opinion but for discussion what do u think is the perfect setup. I have asked this before with helis and it was a great thread. From what I have seen jr 8711 servos fall in this setup. Helis its the same servo but the high speed version.

Simple and afordable that works. Actually very easy to acheive. Follow what you believe rather than listen to the servo police and setup police

Sounds like a plan .... "servo / setup police - lol!"

Quality 6V Nimh RX battery > double switch > quality RX > quality servos (installed well with decent non slop linkages)
Quality 2S Lipo RX battery > quality regulator > quality RX > quality servos (installed well with decent non slop linkages)

(never felt the need for backers / powerboxes, more equipment to carry and to potentially fail)

Think its hard to beat A123 as receiver power when not using Powerboxes.

I agree with everything above.

1) More equipment = more things to fail.

2) A123's don't need a regulator.

3) Unlike a heli... the load on most of our servos is low. Yes, we go fast, but we use small surfaces.

In my book... the perfect set-up is "K.I.S.S."

Hmmm A123's maybe this could be my future .... do they req special chargers? Any advice and links etc would be appreciated ...

I agree I love my powerbox champion rrs, but cost is very high. I like ions personally and now with most receivers starting to handle 7.4v I see no need to change and they are lighter than a 2 cell A123. I like dual receivers so that's why I use a powerbox. So I guess a powerbox with A123/ions and 8711s is about as close to perfect as I see for style guess.

All you ever wanted to know ... thanks, safe to actually store and charge in a model? ( More storing than charging to be truthfull, I only charge Nimh RX batteries in a model)

If you're using 7.4v batteries, might as well go with 8911s.

Yes... they do require a special charger... but any of the new "LiPo" chargers have a LiFe or A123 setting.

You must mean perfect setups

Different models need different setups, it's not a 'one size fits all' world.

Ask a simple question round here & you will get a heap of different answers, all of them correct!

The perfect setup is when the wife goes to visit her family once a monthand youbring your girlfriend to your house to stay with you every time. She has aplace of her ownthat is close to where you work so you can visit her for a quickie during lunch or on your way home from work. I've been looking at the 18MZ not just as an upgrade but also as a tool to remove weight/complexity from the airframe. This radio has enough channels and programming features that I should never need any onboard matchboxes, sequencers, etc. Couple that with dual A123's with dual switches and maybe some sbus distributed receivers and I should be able to save a bunch of weight. Plus the cost savings should help offset some of the extra costs of the Futaba receivers with the added benefit of telemetry - mainly for battery voltage but fuel level and airspeed would be nice too.
